Day 7.2.6 / Name:

Meet the Challenge

Directions: Please read the following passage and answer the questions.

A dyslexic boy who set up a website to offer help to other children with the condition has won a top Internet award. Dyslexic people may write figures or letters the wrong way around, spell words in several different ways and have a short concentration span. I Am Dyslexic.com was started by 13-year-old Barnaby Blackburn after he found nothing on the internet that suited his needs. The site tells his own story, offers a chance for visitors to send in theirs, and provides games and tasks aimed at improving reading and writing skills.

Barnaby says "I use my computer in school every day and it is a big help. My teachers think it is quite amazing. They have all been looking at the site and commenting on it." The site has gradually become more popular since its foundation and has so far attracted more than 80,000 hits. A question and answer format gives tips on details such as which color background and font styles to use to make text easier to read and a step by step guide on how to improve spelling.

A Yahoo spokesman said, "This is a colorful and informative site which will be of help to anyone visiting."
