~Counting objects-combine the # cups and straws from last quarter with the cups coming home for this quarter. Pick a cup and look at the number inside the cup. Count and place that many straws into the cup. Dump the straws, pick another cup and play again.

~Counting sequence-Use the number chart: 1. Touch and count from 1-50. 2. Close your eyes, put your finger on the paper, open your eyes and count on from the number your finger landed on.

~Comparing Numbers-Cut out the number cards (this will reinforce cutting skills) and place the cards in the brown bag provided. Pull out two numbers cards. Circle the two numbers on the provided number train. Say aloud which number is greater than, less than or equal to. For example: If you pulled out a 6 and a 9, circle the six and the 9 with the dry erase marker and say: 6 is less than 9, 9 is greater than 6. Erase, put the cards back, and play again.

~Decomposing numbers–Choose a five frame. Place the red and blue circles on the five frame to make different combinations of the number given on the card. Say aloud how the number was decomposed into two numbers. For example if you chose the card with the number 4, youcan place 2red circles and 2 blue circles in the frame and say: 4 is 2 and 2. Or, if you filled that same frame with 3 red circles and 1 blue circle, say: 4 is 3 and 1.

~Composing numbers-1. Cut out the “Mickey ears” cards. 2.Pick a “Mickey ears” card. Count out blue circles into the left ear andred circles into the right ear. 3. ~Sight/High Frequency Words-

*Remember to practice old words as well.

1. Cut out the word cards. 2. Choose a card, read the word, trace each letter naming the letter as you trace it, and say the word again.

More ways to practice sight/high frequency words:

  • Cut out, make and read mini-sight word books.
  • When you are out, find as many sight words on billboards, signs and so on.
  • Copy the sight words onto index cards. Scatter the index cards on the floor face up leaving about a foot between each card. Place the set we provided facedown. Turn over the first card in the stack. Have your child read the word and then jump on the corresponding card on the floor. Turn over the next card and have your child read it and jump on that word. Continue until your child has jumped on all the words. Mix up the cards and play again!
  • Use the above cards and play Go Fish and Concentration.
  • Pick a sight word card. Search for that word in magazines/newspapers, read and highlight it.
  • When reading you story, have your child point out the sight/high frequency words we are learning.

~Vowel Practice- Using the vowel extension sheet, have your child name the letter, drag their finger on the dotted line saying the sound, and end on the picture, finishing the word.

Writing-Practice telling, drawing, and writing a personal narrative using the story hand. Label the pictures.
