Dine at participating FLAVOR restaurants and support Tacoma Community House

TACOMA, WA –On Thursday,Sept. 22, 2016,Tacoma Community House (TCH) and 10local restaurants will partner to host the 4th annual “FLAVOR: Stand Up for Immigrants, Sit Down for a Meal.” As part of Welcoming Week, a national initiative to welcome immigrants to the U.S.,FLAVOR celebrates the culinary talents and contributions of immigrant-owned and immigrant-friendly restaurants in our community.

Participating restaurantswill donate a minimum of 25% of the day’s sales to support TCH’s mission of serving immigrants and other community members through its four core programs: Education, Employment, Immigration and Advocacy (crime victim support). Annually, TCH provides 3,700 program services to 2,700 individuals from over 90 countries.

This year’s co-chairs are Russel Brunton, proprietor of Indochine Asian Dining Lounge, and Azusa Hirasawa and Michele Simone, proprietors of II Lucano Ristorante. All see the important contributions TCH makes in our community and the need to celebrate the talents of immigrant-owned restaurants. The following restaurants are participating:

Established in the settlement house tradition in 1910, TCH’s mission is to create opportunities for immigrants and other community members in the Puget Sound region.The programs and services that will directly benefit from the proceeds of Flavor include: job readiness programs and placement services, immigration and naturalization services, Basic Education for Adults (BEdA) and English Language Acquisition (ELA) classes, citizenship and computer classes, domestic violence and sexual assault services, translation and interpretation services, as well as tutoring programs that serve both children and adults.

“Demand for all of our immigrant integration initiatives has grown over the past year,” says Liz Dunbar, TCH’s Executive Director. “Through FLAVOR, our goal is to highlight the positive contributions that immigrants are making in our neighborhoods and communities, all while raising critical funds that help our participants thrive while navigating life in a new country.”
