Grading Policy
This semester class consists of two marking periods and a final exam and project.
Grades will be weighted by:

  • Projects & Tests – 50%
  • Classwork, Homework & Quizzes– 40 %
  • POP (Participation/Organization/Preparation) – 10%

Projects include individual design work, research projects, group projects and presentations. Project deadlines will be posted in class and on Google Classroom. Projects are expected to be submitted on time and will be marked down for each day that they are late:

  • 10 points (1 letter grade) for every CLASS day late (ie. A Day to A Day)
  • 5 points (1/2 letter grade) for every calendar day (A day to B day)

Students absent on the date a project is due are expected to hand in the work on the day they return. Students absent while the project was in progress may be granted an extension based on days missed as agreed upon with the teacher. Projects may also be submitted remotely using Google Classroom and student laptops.

Please see attached rubric for expectations regarding the appropriate use of studio/lab time.

Class Supplies

  1. FLASH DRIVE to back up digital work on a regular basis! Laptops can (and do) crash, freeze, or suddenly lose data. Students are also encouraged to use Google Drive as a remote server to store and back up their work.
  2. NOTEBOOK: 1” binder notebook (including loose-leaf paper) for notes, with folders for handouts, instructions, and other paperwork. You can share this notebook with your other design classes as long as sections are separate and organized.
  3. SKETCHBOOK: Students are encouraged to keep an active sketchbook for the duration of this class. Sketchbooks are a great place to jot down notes, develop ideas, or draw & doodle duringspare time.
Most computer-based assignments will begin with a creative development phase that includes hand sketching, and students will often need to submit copies of their sketches along with their finished digital projects. You may re-use sketchbooks fromprevious design classes if you have room to do so… if not, you can purchase a new sketchbook in the size/format of your choice.
