I am delighted to have your child at Twin Lakes Academy Middle. I know the transition from elementary to middle schoolis quitedemanding at the beginning of the school year for our sixth graders. However, as the year progresses, it will become more challenging because we do have high expectations for our students. Therefore, I will need your assistance by regular communicating with your child, the school, and me, so we can collaboratively work together to meet their academic needs.
Parents and/or guardians view your child’s grades, attendance, andall pertinent information via computer by logging in your password that will be given to you. If you do not have a password, it can be obtained at the front office. Please read the following information carefully. Course Overview: Law Studies is a survey of American Revolution, the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution. After learning how our system of government came into being, we will later explore how it works today (Executive, Legislative, Judicial Branches). Students are expected to analyze cases, current events, articles, participate in mock trials, debates and complete a memorandum of laws. Law studies involves active student participation in their learning.

Binders: The Social Studies binder must be brought to class. It will serve as an agenda to keep their daily class work and homework assignments documented. Most importantly, the Social Studies binder will serve as a vital tool for parents/guardians and the teachers to communicate throughout the year to discuss other pertinent information, such as conduct and academics.

Materials:

  • Follow the generic supply list on the TLAM website: (2) 3 Prong Pocket Folder, small Spiral composition book, notebook paper, Colored Pencils, 3” Binder to combine all core subjects, and thumb drive.

Class Rules:

1. Ask before acting by raising your hand first.

2. Be respectful.

3. Come prepared and on time.

4. Always think before you react.

5. Electronics are not seen or heard (Completely off).

Consequences:Progressive Discipline Plan

Rewards:

  1. Praise (Daily)
  2. Positive notes and phone calls home (Random).
  3. Whole class free time .
  4. Various other positive perks. (Throughout the school year)
  5. The Joy of Learning. (Each day of the school year)

Grading:

The grades are given on a point scale. For example, if the student earns 200 points out of 250 points, their final score will be 80%, which is a B for that nine week grading period. Points are distributed as follow: Classwork 50%, Test /Quizzes 20%, Projects 20%, Homework 10%.

Grading Scale:

A =100 – 90

B = 89 – 80

C = 79 – 70

D =69 – 60

F = 59 and below

Extra Credit:At the end of each grading period, I will onlyoffer extra credit to students that need 1 to 2 percent to increase their average to the next highest grade (Ex: 68% -D to 70% -C). Extra credit will not take the place of any assignments that are due during the school year. Students may complete up to two book projects each quarter, instructions for the projects can be found on my website-
