Key stage 3

We are delighted that the results in key stage 3 show year on year improvement, strong evidence of the impact of the work the school has done to support and challenge our students to achieve their potential. This supports Ofsted’s view assessment that “students make good progress during key stage 3 and this is beginning to have an effect on improved results and achievement in year 10.”

GCSE results 2015

Fitzharrys students and staff are celebrating another year of new records at GCSE.

69% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades, a further improvement on last year. The percentage of grades at A*/A is a new school record. 20% of students achieved 5 or more A*/A grades. We have seen more A^ results than previously, the grade above A* awarded for exceptional achievement.

There were many real success stories across the school, both for individual students and for departments.80% of students achieved A*-C in Maths. This is up 4% on last year’s record results, and a fantastic 29% higher than in 2012. All students were entered for IGCSE English. After a strong performance in 2014 the results were far out of line with expectations. This is consistent with the experience of many secondary schools in Oxfordshire and nationally. Strategies are in place to address the issue.

9 subjects achieved A*-C of 80% or higher, and many subjects showed significant increases on the strong results of last year.These strides forward show the sustained success across Fitzharrys.

A2 Results 2015

Students in the Abingdon Consortium for Education once again achieved record A Level exam results. Made up of Fitzharrys, John Mason, Larkmead Schools and Abingdon and Witney College, the ACfE is the 7th highest achieving secondary school Sixth Form in Oxfordshire and goes from strength to strength each year.

The percentage of A* and A grades is once more above the national average, with 11% of students achieved at least 3 A* or A grades. At A*-B the figure is 56%, above national average, up 4% from last year and a 10% rise in two years. This compares well with Matthew Arnold School at 58%, and at 5% higher than Wallingford and 8% higher than the Didcot Partnership they are a fantastic achievement from the students and staff in Abingdon, proof of the consistently rising standards in our community.

Performances at Fitzharrys have sustained last year’s record results. In particular % of students achieving AAB or higher in the facilitating subjects for top universities has risen again. A* and A grades exceeded the national average.
