Guidance notes for applicants

The following notes give general information and conditions governing the awards.

Criteria

  1. Annual grants will be available to students who
  • are undertaking a full-time course at University or College of Higher Education
  • must be residents of Waltham Forest
  • must be under 25 years of age
  • must have attended one of the following schools:
  • must demonstrate need for financial assistance (see Question 14)
  1. It is expected that the Head teacher will be informed of any application and a supportingstatement be given from the School/College/University

  1. The grant shall be awarded as a result of free and open competition (interviews will be held in September). In considering the application the Trustees may have regard to the results of any examinations passed by the candidate, to his/her school record and to any report made by the Head teacher, including the extent of their financial needs and their ability to profit by higher or tertiary education.
  2. Grants shall be paid in two parts. The first payment will be made in or around October 2017, subject to receipt of proof of enrolment at the applicants’ institution of higher education. The second part will be paidin or around January 2018subject to receipt of a satisfactory report from the course tutor/Principal. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure this report is sent to the Trustees. Each grant will be made for one year only. Applications for grants for further years must be the subject of a separate application each year.
  3. The Trustees reserve the right to terminate any grant at any time within the academic year, if in their opinion the grant is being misused or used for any purpose other than for which it was initially approved.
  4. The Trustees base their decision to interview solely from the applicationform. It is therefore paramount that the form is completed as fully as possible.
  5. It is a condition of any grant that the successful candidate will keep the Trustees informed both during the year of his/her grant and subsequently as to the progress in his/her studies and the results of any examinations taken.
  1. To comply with our financial procedures, identity checks must be carried out for all successful applicants invited for interview. Successful applicants will be required to provide us with the following documentation.

1 Mandatory Requirement:

  • Student Identity Card.

And 1 document from the following:

  • Passport
  • Birth Certificate
  • Current Driving Licence.

And proof of acceptance into the University detailed in the application form.

  1. Applicants who are awarded a grant will also be required to provide proof of enrolment at the Institute of Higher Education they will be attending. This will be required prior to the release of the first half of the grant.
