Job Description – Bar Supervisor

The Bars department operates four bars in the main DUSA building with the aim to provide the students with the finest quality, best value products and services, served in a stimulating and well maintained environment. The role of Bar Supervisorwithin this department is to lead bar teams with particular focus on the operational running of the bar/venue, delivering high standards of customer service.

The Role

  • To be responsible for all cash and stock processes with the bars, including temporary facilities
  • Placing orders for consumables (non-alcoholic) as agreed with Bars Manager and Assistant Bars Manager
  • To assist in the production of rotas, maintaining appropriate staffinglevels as directed by the Bars Manager and Assistant Bars Manager
  • To be competent in performing operational first fixes to all IT equipment and processes used by the department
  • Supervision of the Bars Senior Team and full time members of staff
  • Providing induction and refresher training for all members of staff under the direction of the Bars Manager and Assistant Bars Manager
  • Assist Bars Manager and Assistant Bars Manager with the production of annual staff appraisals
  • To assist in the preparation of payroll information for authorisation by the Bars Manager or Assistant Bars Manager
  • To ensure compliance with licensing laws, HACCP documentation and health and safety regulations, undertaking Health and Safety inspections in audits with Assist & Bars Manager
  • To assist in the production of marketing briefs for promotions for the Marketing Department and for social media release
  • To maintain a high profile front of house during routine and key operating times, including special events
  • To conduct routine daily front and back of house hygiene inspections, ensuring all supporting documentation is kept up to date
  • To ensure staff comply with all standards detailed in departmental Standard Operating Procedures (SOP)
  • To assist staff from other departments if required and any other duties that may reasonably be expected by the Bars Manager

Qualifications/Knowledge/Experience

  • Personal licence holder for the sale of alcohol
  • Elementary food hygiene certificate
  • Supervisory experience in bar/hospitality environment

Hours of work and salary

40 hours per week on rota (annualised so that more hours can be worked during semester time and time off during non-semester time), including evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

No additional payments or allowances and no contractual entitlement to overtime.
