Saturaday 28th Feb – DRC Cross Country Championship

With Annan River Races being the day after our night out, it has been decided to hold a closed event for our mebers. Les has been in cointact via email etc to publicise this event to be held at Kingholm Key around the playing fields with a start/finish near to the MacLeod Pavillion. The ladies will race 2 laps to give a total of 4 miles with the men doing 3 laps to give a total of 6 miles. This is a great chance for us to test our early season fitness and also for any newbies to cross country to try it out in afriendly club event. Further details to follow.

Saturday 28th Feb – DRC Annual Awards Dinner Dance

We are quickly approaching our Annual Awards Night and tickets are going fast. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, please contact Steve Mohan ASAP on club nights or via email .

If you have got your tickets and not paid….please make arrangements to do so ASAP. It’s not fair to leave it until the night and create unnecessary stress for Steve.

Sunday 8th March – Basic Navigation Skills and First Aid

The club has organised a training day covering navigation principles and basic 1st Aid relevant to Trail running. If you are interested then speak with Sue and/or drop her an email,

Saturday 14th March – Dentdale 14 mile road race

Back by popular demand, this is the first race of the DRC Grand Prix for 2015. It’s a great event held around the small village of Dent. Full details and entry can be found at the following web address: . The club will put a bus on and details of this will be circulated shortly.

Sunday 29th March – Scottish (4&6 Stage Road Relays) – Livingston

Whilst this is some time away, I will need to get entries in ASAP. There are two relay races on with the ladies having teams of 4 and men teams of 6. The distances vary and are either 3.1miles or 5.8miles. The easiest way is for me to enter a list of names with reserves as people may have last minute changes to plans or get an injury etc. If you are interested and are a member of Scottish Athletics, could you email me with your date of birth and SA number?

This event is open to runners of all ages, unlike the recent Masters relays.

Grand Prix Update

In previous years sometimes we have had to make changes throughout the year as datesare confirmed, races are cancelled etc. However this year our first change is before we even get started. Unfortunately the Longtown 10 race scheduled for Saturday 4th April has been cancelled as the organiser decided it wasn’t viable as an event. Perhaps it’s as a result of the fact that there are so many events to choose from? Anyway we will substitute this with the Tom Scott race that is on Sunday 5th April at the StrathclydePark course….thankfully say those of us who ran the hilly route around Carluke last year!!

Notable Performances/Highlights in January

As many of us nursed hang-overs and uttered the words “never again”, others amongst were out on the 1st January running around with a thoughts of Pb’s and new training regimes etc. The hardier amongst us could be found tackling a small matter of a 30 mile coastal ultra-run…Yes, Seb, Craig and Jacob brought the new-year in, in style! The next day saw a small contingent racing the Greenmantle dash in Broughton. The hill Billies were at it again in Selkirk with Craig, Norman and Kerry taking on the Feel the Burns Race. The weekend of 24th and 25th of January was relay-time. On Saturday Susan G, Mo K, James K, Kerry W, Sue J and Steve M took part in the Devil’s Burden Relay. Then onto Sunday and DRC stole the show at the Annual SVHC Masters Road Relay. The team of Lisa, Sian and Jo were victorious for a second time in recent years winning the ladies title. On the men’s side, the team of Jim B, Tosh, Sandy and Ian L scooped the vet 50 prize, the first time that a DRC men’s team have lifted a National trophy. The third team of Jacob, myself, Les and Steve M enjoyed the day and narrowly missed out on adding to the trophies (ok we were miles behind). It was a memorable day for all DRC runners and the team prizes were backed up by Ian L picking up the fastest Individual prize in the vet 50 category running a very swift 20:37….I struggle to see any of our young guns matching that time.

So a great start to the year and some great events to look forward to. Please keep an eye on the club web-site and FB to keep your-self up-to date with what events we have on

Hope to see you at the Awards Night!

Happy Running
