Dallas Joint Counter-Terrorism Awareness Workshop Series to be held April 21& 22

TheCity of Dallas Office of Emergency Management,Dallas Police Department, Dallas Fire-Rescue Department, andtheInteragencyPlanningGroup(IPG),consistingoftheNationalCounterterrorismCenter(NCTC),theDepartmentofHomelandSecurity(DHS),andtheFederalBureauofInvestigation(FBI),will conducttheDallasJointCounterterrorismAwarenessWorkshoponThursday,April 21andFriday,April 22,2016attheDallas City Hall Conference Center Auditorium at 1500 Marilla, Suite L1FN, Dallas, Texas 75201.

Thistwo-dayworkshopprovidesaforumfordiscussingandanalyzingthecity,county,state,andfederalcapabilitiestorespondtoacomplexattackinvolvingcoordinatedterroristassaultsagainstmultipletargetsintheDallasmetropolitanarea.Participantsatthelocallyfocusedworkshopwillincludecity,county,region,state,andfederalrepresentativesfrompolice,fire,emergencymedicalservices,fusioncenter,emergencymanagement,publicaffairs,andmedicalcommunities,aswellasotherstakeholdersfromtheprivatesectorinorderto:

  • Reviewexistingpreparedness,responseandinterdictionplans,policies,andproceduresrelatedtoacomplexterroristattack;
  • Identifyfederal,state,andlocalresources—includinggrants,training,exercises,andtechnicalassistance—availabletoaddresspotentialgapsincapabilities;
  • Coordinatesituationalawareness,recognizebestpractices,andencourageinformationsharingamongallstakeholdersintheeventofacomplexterroristattack;
  • Examinehealthcaresystemandclinicalchallengesuniquetoacomplexterroristattack
  • Examinetherolesofthecommunityandbystandersinacomplexterroristattack;
  • Discussaframeworkforimmediatemedicalmanagementofwoundedin,ornear,anattacksite;and
  • Identifyandsharebestpracticesandlessonslearnedfromcasestudiesinmedicalpreparedness.

Tacticalandmedicalconsiderationsareintegratedintobothdaysoftheworkshop.Additionalparticipantsincludehospital/medicalpersonnelandplanners,communitygroups(associations,faith-basedorganizations,schoolandneighborhoodgroups,andsportsteams).

Local media are invited to attend opening ceremonies for the workshop from 8 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday April 21. Featured speakers will include Mayor Michael S. Rawlings, Police Chief, David O. Brown, FBI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Thomas M. Class and FEMA Region VI Regional Administrator Tony Robinson.
