Staff Accountant

Summary

Implement and carry out day-to-day accounting and finance functions.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities

  1. Assist Director of Accounting and Vice President of Financial and Resource Management in all aspects of Foundation accounting processes.
  2. Provide long-range financial forecasts when needed.
  3. Work with Accounting Manager in developing operating, capital and grants budgets
  4. Monitor Operating and Program budgets monthly.
  5. Maintain accounts receivable and payable ledgers.
  6. Reconcile bank accounts.
  7. Prepare accrual entries for posting to Blackbaud General Ledger.
  8. Process all contributions to the Foundation ensuring they are deposited and credited to the proper funds and administered according to the fund agreement and Foundation policies.
  9. Provide financial reporting for programs or operational activities (e.g. Panhandle Twenty/20, ACE, Nonprofit Service Center).
  10. Prepare financial statements for funds upon request.
  11. Prepare quarterly financial reports for all foundation funds.
  12. Prepare financial reports (historical trends, financial projections, etc.)
  13. Prepare worksheets to assist auditors during audit of each Foundation.
  14. Assist Director of Finance and Accounting with preparation and review of Form 990.
  15. Maintain files on oil and gas properties. Work with outside consultant when Foundation receives offer to purchase or lease these properties.
  16. Ensure that all Foundation correspondence, reports, publications, etc. meet Foundation standards for accuracy and style prior to final printing or release.

Minimum Requirements

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business is preferred.

Skills and Experience

  1. Experience in nonprofit accounting, fund management and general day-to-day accounting functions.
  2. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is required, intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word and Excel are preferred.
  3. A minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute is required.
  4. A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
  5. Must possess excellent written and verbal communication, and critical thinking skills.
  6. Must be able to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently with moderate supervision.
