Job Description
Staff Accountant
Summary
Implement and carry out day-to-day accounting and finance functions.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities
- Assist Director of Accounting and Vice President of Financial and Resource Management in all aspects of Foundation accounting processes.
- Provide long-range financial forecasts when needed.
- Work with Accounting Manager in developing operating, capital and grants budgets
- Monitor Operating and Program budgets monthly.
- Maintain accounts receivable and payable ledgers.
- Reconcile bank accounts.
- Prepare accrual entries for posting to Blackbaud General Ledger.
- Process all contributions to the Foundation ensuring they are deposited and credited to the proper funds and administered according to the fund agreement and Foundation policies.
- Provide financial reporting for programs or operational activities (e.g. Panhandle Twenty/20, ACE, Nonprofit Service Center).
- Prepare financial statements for funds upon request.
- Prepare quarterly financial reports for all foundation funds.
- Prepare financial reports (historical trends, financial projections, etc.)
- Prepare worksheets to assist auditors during audit of each Foundation.
- Assist Director of Finance and Accounting with preparation and review of Form 990.
- Maintain files on oil and gas properties. Work with outside consultant when Foundation receives offer to purchase or lease these properties.
- Ensure that all Foundation correspondence, reports, publications, etc. meet Foundation standards for accuracy and style prior to final printing or release.

Minimum Requirements
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business is preferred.
Skills and Experience
- Experience in nonprofit accounting, fund management and general day-to-day accounting functions.
- Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite is required, intermediate level experience with Microsoft Word and Excel are preferred.
- A minimum typing speed of 45 words per minute is required.
- A valid Texas driver’s license is required.
- Must possess excellent written and verbal communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Must be able to manage multiple priorities and work efficiently with moderate supervision.
