Hours of work: Working hours as necessary. Due to the nature of the role, evening, weekend and bank holiday working is essential.

Job Description

Core Purpose

To be responsible for the welfare, support and safety of participants taking part in Coliseum productions.

To ensure compliance with the Coliseum’s policies, with particular reference to Health Safety and Safeguarding.

To be an ambassador and support the delivery of the Coliseum’s vision and values.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provideparticipants with guidance, protection, clarification and support;
  • Be familiar with, and adhere to, the theatre’s Safeguarding Policy andprocedures; reporting any concerns to the Stage Manager or Designated Person;
  • Remain with all the participants at all times;
  • Ensure the participantsdo not leave the Coliseum premises unsupervised unless with written parental permission;
  • Be familiar with each Child Performance licence and the terms of its issue;
  • Keep a record of the duration and timing of rehearsals and performances, time spent at the venue, breaks, waiting time, overnight breaks and any other incident regarding the participants’ welfare and treatment;
  • Have anin-depth knowledge of Child Performance regulations;
  • Maintain an up to date list of the participants’ emergency contact details;
  • Keep an accurate register of attendance, ensuring all information is up to date;
  • Maintain confidentiality at all times;
  • Ensure the delivery of the highest standards of customer care;
  • Undertake any other duties as reasonably requested;

Health & Safety

  • Report any illnesses/and or accidents to a first aider and complete appropriate reports;
  • Be responsible for evacuating participants to an allocated assembly point in the event of emergency;
  • Work within ColiseumHealthSafety guidelines at all times;

Communication

  • Liaise with the Head of Production and ensure all staff adhere to licensing regulations;
  • Act as a liaison between parents, the Stage Manager and Chief Executive & Artistic Director;
  • Liaise with other members of the Chaperone team and other Coliseum staff;
  • Ensure all participant swaps between team are recorded and co-ordinated and parents and relevant staff members are informed of any changes;

On and off Stage

  • Collect the participants at the start of their call and ensure they aresafely collected at the end of their day;
  • Ensure the participants behave appropriately at all times in accordance with the guidance they have been given;
  • Ensure the participants are correctly dressed in costume and that they keep them in good condition;
  • Be aware of signs of tiredness or stress in a participant and act accordingly;
  • Ensure participants only use the designated toilet facilities;
  • Ensure no other adult is allowed in the dressing room without permission or authorisation;
  • Ensure the participants do not enter any other dressing room with the exception of those allocated to them.

Desirable

  • A current DBS check;
  • A Chaperone Licence. (The Coliseum will assist you in obtaining a Chaperone licence from your Local Authority if you do not have one);
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues;
  • Awareness of child performance legislation;
  • Awareness of theatre practices;
  • First Aid qualification
