Local builders join Willamette West Habitat for Humanity in nationwide building effort

Professional homebuilders help Habitat by building one home in one week

Hillsboro, OR. May 23, 2012 – Local homebuilder Mountainwood Homes is partnering with Willamette West Habitat for Humanity to build a Beaverton home during a one-week period in June, giving hope to low-income families seeking decent and affordable housing, as part of Habitat for Humanity International’s Home Builders Blitz 2012.

During this year’s event, the nationwide project seeks to build and renovate more than 200 homes in just one week, thanks to the skilled labor provided by local professional homebuilders and construction firms such as Mountainwood Homes.

“We are excited to partner with builders and engage them in our work to help families in need of affordable housing,” said Jonathan Reckford, Habitat for Humanity International CEO. “By sharing their talents and skills with us, we are able to increase our capacity to help transform communities. We thank the builders for their commitment and dedication to making Home Builders Blitz 2012 a success.”

Locally, Robert Wood, owner of Mountainwood Homes, is excited for the project. “We appreciate the opportunity to work with Willamette West Habitat for Humanity to provide opportunities for home ownership to local families. We would like to give a special thanks to our trade partners and suppliers, without them an event like this could never happen.”

Robert has worked diligently to gather sub-contractors and suppliers who have agreed to donate materials and labor for the build, delivering the finished home to Willamette West Habitat for Humanity at virtually no cost to the affiliate. Building a home from foundation to finished in only seven build days requires precise timelines and coordination of suppliers, skilled laborers, even city inspectors.

Construction begins on June 1st. The Lakew family have finished their 500 sweat equity hours and saved for their down-payment. They are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to receive their keys at the home’s official dedication June 9th and sign their mortgage papers shortly thereafter.
