Research and Evaluation Program

One Year Contract Position with Possibility of Renewal

Minimum 21 hours up to 35 hours per week

The Canadian Mental Health Association is a nation-wide, non-profit organization that promotes the mental health of all and supportsthe resilience and recovery of people experiencing mental illness. CMHA Toronto is a leader and advocate in community mental health providing a wide range of services across Toronto including research and evaluation. Through a program of applied research, CMHA Toronto supports the community mental health and addictions sector by advancing understanding of the service needs of persons with lived experience of a mental illness and effective interventions that address these needs. We are currently seeking a Research Associate for our research initiative.

Research Associates are involved in all aspects of research study development, funding, initiation, execution, analysis, interpretation and presentation and publication of results. Reports to and works in collaboration with the Director of Research and Evaluation.

Duties/Responsibilities

Due to variable nature of position, the following list is to be used as a guide only:

§  Apply advanced knowledge of research hypotheses in the development/initiation of research studies – sets research goals and objectives, drafts initial research protocol, designs and pre-tests data collection forms

§  Lead and direct the writing and submission of grant applications in close collaboration with the Director of Research and Evaluation

§  Independently collect, tabulate and analyze study-related data

§  Analyze/interpret study results – draw conclusions and policy implications

§  Present research findings to stakeholder groups and elicit feedback

§  Critically appraise/edit manuscripts and proposals of trainees, students etc.

§  Lead authorship and/or co-authorship of journal articles; responsible for academic output of research studies

§  Responsible for training and supervision of research students and/or assistants

§  Chair research group meetings

§  Carry out duties of principal investigator, or co-investigator in research studies as authorized by Director of Research

§  Represent/participate in internal administrative committees, external advisory committees

Qualifications

§  Minimum of a Ph.D. degree (or currently in completion) in a health service related discipline

§  3-5 years of experience conducting quantitative research

§  Knowledge of statistical and quantitative analytical techniques including modelling

§  Experience cleaning and analyzing large administrative datasets

§  Fundamental understanding of epidemiology principles is an asset

§  Technical proficiency in the following software: SPSS, Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint

§  Able to work independently with demonstrated initiative and self-direction

§  Capable of working on multiple projects with various teams and producing quality work under tight timelines

§  Effective written and oral communications skills including presentation skills to both technical and non-technical audiences
