8th Grade Theme Park Design and Table of Contents (Days 1-8 Quarter 1)
The project will incorporate the use of the Paint Program, clipart and MS Word tables. The timeframe and objectives are as follows:
Day 1: Project Overview and Sample Paint of 8th Grade Wing
Teachers will explain the scope and sequence of the Theme Park Design and Table of Contents. Do a group example of the 8th Grade wing. Set up Paint program by doing the following:
Ø Open a PowerPoint and Create a Title Slide for your Theme Park Project. The slide must contain the name of your theme park, hours of operation, location (street address, city, state), and a background picture relating to theme parks. Save the PowerPoint as your name and the name of your theme park.
Ø Open Paint and go to the Image Menu/Tab, Select Attributes, Change Unit to Inches, set size to Width=9 and Height to 6.5 and click OK.
Ø Go to Save As and change file name to Map of Theme Park, change file type to JPEG and save the picture to your Theme Park Folder.
Day 2: Format Background and Start Design Layout (Must be in this order!)
Open your Map of Theme Park picture. Using the Fill Tool (paint can) create the background of your picture to green (like grass). Image may be enhanced by using multiple shades of green with the airbrush or spray can. Draw a parking lot (color black) in one of the corners next to where you want the ticket booth and entrance area located. Draw in perimeter (outside edge) walkways keeping in mind where you will locate your rides, restrooms, concessions, games, buildings, etc.
Days 3-6: Placing Rides, Concessions, Games, Buildings into Your Paint Picture (USE PIXLR.COM TO EDIT RIDES BEFORE SAVING AND INSERTING INTO YOUR PAINT THEME PARK MAP)
Open a picture from the Theme Park Pictures Folder in Paint. Using the editing tools change the colors and may add a sign to the ride. Use the selection tool (0) to select the area of the picture that you want to copy and paste in to your Map of Theme Park. Add in connecting walkways and any other items that would enhance your Theme Park. Number all rides, concessions, games, buildings, etc. should be numbered in your picture starting with the number 1.
Required: 12 rides, 3 concessions stands/restaurants, 3 bathrooms/first aid stations, parking lot, entrance , exit, 3 attractions (circus, music, magic show, petting zoo), landscaping (trees, fountains, benches, clock towers, statues), 3 carnival games, 3 gift shops. Optional: ATM’s, maintenance, theme park mascot, hotel/resort, train, arcades, security building.
Resave the completed map in theme park folder. Place the completed map in the background of Slide 2 of your Theme Park PowerPoint (your name and the name of your theme park)
Days 7 and 8: Sample Table of Contents, Create Table of Contents for Map of Theme Park and Place into Slide 3 of the Theme Park PowerPoint (your name and the name of your theme park).
Create a table of contents for your Map of Theme Park. This will be done in MS Word using the insert tables feature. Must include the following
· Insert a table to display the ride numbers and rides
· Merge Row 1 and use Title Style and name “Theme Park Table of Contents”
· Use and appropriate theme to display table information
· Center table vertically and horizontally on a page
· Center align ride numbers and left align ride name
· Number column widths should be .5 to 1 inch
· Row heights should be adjusted to make the table take up the full page on either portrait or landscape orientation.
· Adjust font sizes, colors and fill colors in order to enhance the table appearance
· Use borders or just gridlines to enhance the appearance of the table
· Sort rides alphabetically in descending order
Save As table of contents in your Theme Park Folder. Using copy/paste special place the MS Word Table into Slide 3 of the Theme Park PowerPoint.
Day 9: Open the Theme Park PowerPoint and insert a new slide (Slide 4). Go to insert table and insert 4 X 4 table with the following information. You must decide on the ticket prices for single day, two day, and season passes. Use your Design tab to enhance your table.
