2008 Chicago Area political and social Behavior (CAB) Workshop

Date and Time

May 9, 2008, 10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Location

·  Northwestern University

·  Donald P. Jacobs Center (Kellogg School of Management)

·  2001 Sheridan Rd., Evanston, Ill., Room 276.

o  From the Church Street parking garage, walk north on Chicago Avenue. After two blocks, continue north on Sheridan Road for two blocks, until you reach the intersection of Sheridan Road and Foster Street. The Jacobs Center is on your right -- look for the building that says Kellogg.

o  Facing the Jacobs Center from Sheridan Road, the room is on the right side of the building. Walk under the sign for Nathaniel Leverone Hall, past the bike racks, and enter the lobby through the glass doors on your left. Take the stairs or the elevator to the second floor. Room 276 is near the top of the stairs.

Parking, train, and hotel options appear below.

Presentations

·  The schedule of (four) presentations appears below.

·  Papers are available at: http://faculty.wcas.northwestern.edu/~jnd260/conference.html.

·  A moderator (for each paper) will keep time and perhaps pose a few questions; however, there is no formal discussant, and thus, the discussion will largely come from the audience.

·  Each presenter will have approximately 30 minutes to present, followed by approximately 30 minutes of discussion (1 hour total).

Meals

·  A light breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner will be provided.

·  The dinner will begin at 5:30PM at Carmen’s Pizza of Evanston (1012 Church St.
Evanston, IL 60201; Tel : 847.328.0031). See http://www.carmenspizza.net/.

o  If you are walking: From the Jacobs Center, walk south on Sheridan Road for two blocks, then continue south on Chicago Avenue for two blocks. Turn right on Church Street and continue to walk west on Church Street until you reach the restaurant at the intersection of Maple Avenue and Church.

o  If you are driving: From the Jacobs Center, drive south on Sheridan Road for two blocks, then continue south on Chicago Avenue for three blocks. Church Street is one way only, so you will need to drive one more block and turn right on Davis Street. Continue to follow Davis Street until you reach the intersection of Davis and Oak Avenue. Turn right on Oak Avenue and then right again onto Church Street -- the restaurant is at the intersection of Church Street and Maple Avenue. Metered parking is available in the area around the restaurant.

Mentor Program

·  Each graduate student has been matched with a faculty member from a different university who shares his/her interests. (Some faculty members have been matched with multiple graduate students.)

·  The graduate student(s) and faculty member are expected to have lunch together.

Northwestern’s Institute for Policy Research (http://www.northwestern.edu/ipr/), Department of Political Science, and Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences have agreed to sponsor this event on an ongoing basis.
