JOBDESCRIPTION
JOB PURPOSE:
A holisticapproach is tobetaken in providing a developmentaland supportiveroleassisting parentsto improvetheir parenting skills and providea saferenvironmentfor their children.Provide casework and group work to the most vulnerable people aged 12 to 18 years and their families using strength based model.
TheCaseworker will adhere to guidelines and provide quality services to clients through case management and support, case planning and reporting; assessing the strengths and needs of the client, including any risks, coordination of a variety of culturally appropriate supported services to meet needs and monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the services being delivered.
They will maintain professional development in relation to identified best practices, understanding and apply reporting requirements including Mandatory Reporting and other legislative requirements; being aware of program, policy and service changes.
A function of theCaseworker is to undertake activities to implement the case plans including information and advice, support, advocacy, and referrals to relevant agencies or specialist services, and skills development to help clients and families achieve outcomes.
They will ensure that all reporting and case files (paper based and electronic) are of the highest quality standard, and data is protected to ensure client’s information is private and confidential.
The Caseworker will deliver services in accordance with organisational policies, procedures and Code of Conduct; relevant legislative frameworks; and in accordance with conditions identified in funding agreements.
POSITION INORGANISATION:
TheCaseworkerrole reports directly to the Team Leader.
Support and direction may at times be provided by other Team Leaders and the Director.
SCOPEOFROLE:
Responsibleforthedaytodayprovision of case management.
DUTIES &KEYRESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide support to children, youth and families to develop skills that will assist them to:
- Deal with immediate crisis
- Improve the health and wellbeing of children and young people
- Meet the demands of parenthood
- Encourage individual family members to identify and achieve their goals
- Strengthen relationships within the family
- Provide links to appropriate support services
- Contribute to their communities
Use casework strategies to:
- Engage,empathiesand develop professional relationshipswithfamilies and their children
- Identify, manage and reduce child protection concerns
- Useempatheticlistening and problemsolving skillstoidentify the needs anddevelop suitableplansof support
- Makereferralsto othersupportsand servicesto meettheneeds of families and their children
Use groupwork strategies to:
- Facilitate groups providing age appropriate learning activities
- Providenon-judgmental supporttofamiliesand their dependentchildrenthrough a variety of groupworkand informationsessions
- To research,develop, deliverand review education and informationgroups
- Toprovidesupporttofamiliesthatwillencourageconfidence andself-determination
- Keep appropriate records and collect statistics for reporting processes
- Carry out all administrative tasks required or as directed including e.g. case file management, data collection and data entry.
- Attend monthly supervision and case review reporting on activities and working towards personal and professional development
- Participate in organisation planning, reviewing internal processes and policies as required
- Participate as part of the service network, developing and maintaining links with other services, government agencies and schools, in order to enhance collaboration and avoid duplication
- Comply with statutory provisions and adhere to the policies and procedures of the organisation

Specific Functions
Work in a developmental and supportive role with the family or young person in the clientshome, community centre or in group situations. Work with families to achieve their goals in areas such as but not limited to:
- Reduce safety and welfare risks to children
- Working toward preventing homelessness and or family breakdown
- Positive Parenting strategies
- Improve the understanding of challenges that childhood and child development bring for the family
- Improved parenting skills
- Support families in improving their financial management
- Improved child and young person’s self esteem
- Support family coping with social pressures
- Linking families to education and employment opportunities
- Alleviation of social isolation and improving community networking
- Improved household organisation
- Increased knowledge and management of health issues
- Support families to improve their communication and confidence in the community
- Educate families on the range of services they can access and improve their independence
- Support the family members to access specialist servicesas required
- Advocate for family members
- Work collaboratively with families identifying concerns, setting goals, developing strategies to achieve their outcomes in a timely manor
- Using child focused strengths based models in casework to improve outcomes
- Risk taking reduction strategies
- Improve the understanding of parents on challenges that teenage development brings
- Better understanding of education and employment opportunities
- Assist the youth to recognise areas of their life that may require other forms of assistance
- Advocate for youth to achieve goals and improve outcomes
- Support the youth to access specialist services as require
Selection Criteria:
- QualificationinSocial Work, Social Sciences, CommunityWelfareor similar
- Experience providing casework to children, young people and or families with child protection concerns
- Sound understanding and relevant experienceof the issues affecting families, including homelessness, mental health, drug and alcohol and domestic violence
- Experience in working with families with multiple, complex needs including child protection concerns
- Demonstratedunderstandingand responsibility in relation to NSWKeepThemSafe
- Demonstrated understanding of children’s developmental stages and practical parenting skills
- Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in developing professional and interagency relationships
- Proven ability to maintain accurate and thorough case notes and complete reporting requirements to the highest standard
- Competenceinuse of keyboardandstandardPC softwareincludingexcel
- Currentfull drivers licence andaccess to a vehicle with comprehensive insurance
