THE BACKGROUND

Gordano is an over-subscribed 11-18 co-educational comprehensive school with 1910 pupils on roll of which some 405 students are in the Sixth Form. Gordano is one of the Government’s prestigious Leading Edge Schools and acquired Training School status in September 2004. It has recently completed a programme of new build to take account of the growth of housing in Portishead. The School is also a part of the North Somerset 7 Federation of Schools. It has recently achieved an Outstanding rating through its OFSTED inspection 2012.

THE POST

This vacancy is a post which has arisen due to a career change of the present incumbent and will commence on 28th August 2012. This is a pivotal role and primarily supports theschool learning framework set by the Headteacher, by providinggeneral reprographic support to meet both the managerial needs of the school and the educational needs of pupils. Essentially this ensures that both have appropriate resources and equality of access to opportunities to learn and develop.

The day-to-dayoperations of the Reprographics Office in the School are busy and demanding. It is necessary to be able to work effectively with teachers, students, support staff and other professionals, applying own strengths and expertise to contribute positively to the overall aims and objectives of the school.

The department provides resources to c. 2000 users (1910 students and 230 staff).

Please refer to the full Job Description, but the key tasks will include:

  • all aspects of print room operations in terms of creative innovation and operations
  • copying and binding a range of printed materials in bulk
  • using photocopying and/or offset litho printing equipment
  • produce a variety of items including manuals, brochures, leaflets and documents. discussing the job requirements with students and staff
  • prioritisation and working out timescales, costs and the number of copies required
  • recharging back to departments, stock control and ordering
  • programming/operational management of machines
  • supplying print materials to the machines
  • correctly monitoring the progress of the copying run
  • quality checking samples, for example trimming, binding and laminating
  • carrying out basic equipment maintenance and cleaning.
  • administrative duties like recording job details and ordering supplies
  • setting up displays around the school to promote the school’s objectives and recognise the creative achievements of the students

THE WORKING DAY

Normal contract hours will be from 8.00am until 4.00pm each working day. The contract is permanent and for37hours per week, Term Time only plus 5 INSET days and 5 additional days to be worked during periods of school closure/school holidays, in agreement with Jane Dyke, line manager.
