The last date for assessment of this qualification is 31 December 2020 at which time they will be designated as discontinued.

Learners currently enrolled in programmes leading to this qualification may either complete the requirements as specified, or transfer their results to the replacement qualification.

Purpose

This qualification recognises the skills and knowledge of an experienced person at operator level. The holder of the qualification is able to work partly under supervision, and specialise in at least one of the poultry industry sectors.

Holders of the qualification will be able to care for poultry in a poultry facility. They will also have knowledge of the poultry industry and compliance issues; poultry anatomy and reproduction, nutrition and health; and the environmental requirements of poultry.

The core elective allows people to select those skills which are relevant to their particular workplace, and can include first aid; the use of hand tools, small engines, equipment and machinery; interpersonal communications; specialist poultry skills; and quality management.

Strands allow people to specialise in at least one particular sector of the industry, which includes egg production, poultry hatchery, and poultry meat production.

On completion of this qualification people can choose to progress to the National Certificate in Poultry Management (Level 4) [Ref:1156].

Replacement Information

This qualification replaced the National Certificate in Poultry Hatchery (Operations) [Ref:0329] and the National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry with strands in Breeding Operations, Table Egg Production, and Poultry Meat Production [Ref:0330].

Unit standards and achievement standards that are equivalent in outcome are mutually exclusive for the purpose of award. Transition Arrangements

Version 3

Version 3 was republished in order to include reverse transition arrangements (see section below) to ensure candidates would not be disadvantaged when expiring standards were no longer available.

Version 3 was issued following a revision.

·  Standards 8849 and 8856 have been moved from the Core Compulsory section to the strands in Egg Production and Poultry Meat Production.

·  Standard 19043 in the Core Elective section has been replaced by standard 24552.

·  Standard 6257 in the core elective section has been removed from the qualification as it is no longer required by industry.

·  Minimum credits have been decreased from 116-124 to 111-123.

People currently working towards version 1 or 2 of this qualification may either complete the requirements of that version or transfer their results to this version of the qualification.

The last date for entry to training programmes for the version 2 of the qualification is December 2009.

This qualification contains standards that replace earlier standards. People who have gained credit for the expiring standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the replacement standards.

Reverse transition

Reverse transition has been included for version 3 of this qualification to allow candidates to complete the qualification using the expiring standards or replacement standards.

Version 3 of this qualification contains standards that have been replaced and will expire on 31December 2013 or 31December 2015. For the purposes of this qualification, people who have gained credit for the replacement standards are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the expiring standards – see table below.

Version 2 was issued to change the strand name Poultry Rearing to Poultry Meat Production. There were no transition implications.

Version 1 was issued to replace the National Certificate in Poultry Hatchery (Operations) [Ref:0329], and the National Certificate in Poultry Husbandry with strands in Breeding Operations, Table Egg Production, and Poultry Meat Production [Ref:0330].
