Turning Data into ACTION
Wednesday, October 15, 2014
Owens Community College, Findlay, OH
This workshop“Turning Data into Action” is designed to assist school, district and state leaders in analyzing the 2014 HSTW Assessment data in order to make changes in curriculum, instruction and school practices that lead to improved student achievement, graduation rates and college- and career-readiness. Participants will analyze the 2014 HSTW Assessment report to determine progress made and challenges remaining for schools to address in raising student achievement.
Pre-Work:
Participating teams are asked to bring at least one laptop and at least one hard copy of the HSTW Assessment Report per partner pair of attendees. Participants will need to reference the HSTW Assessment Report using both hard copy and the electronic format. Participants will need to complete the tables of the attached workbook PRIOR to attending the session. The workbook tables may be completed in a jigsaw format so that all team members complete a section to share at the session. Starting with Page 14, teams should complete all Data Tables in the work book. Please do not work on questions in the workbook as guided discussion time will be provided.
Please pay close attention to the HSTW Assessment Report Page numbers that are provided at the bottom of each table (listing the source). The page numbers are specific to the hard copy printed form of the HSTW Assessment Report and are intended to assist participants in quickly navigating the data in the report. As sites are looking at comparisons to Similar High Performing Sites, that information is provided in the HSTW Assessment Report and referenced in the source information at the bottom of each workbook table. Participating teams will also need to access school based data (student achievement data—including state assessment results, ACT, SAT, AP, etc.) Please bring a power strip/extension cord for your laptop computer /tablet.
Objectives: As a result of this workshop, participants will
- use data to identify challenges and develop an action plan for addressing those challenges;
- align and compare state-based data with the HSTW Assessment Results to identify accomplishments or challenges;
- develop a plan for engaging faculty, staff and other stakeholders in analyzing assessment results and using data to make change; and
- summarize what they have learned at the workshop, what they will do in their district, school or classroom when they return, and what kind of support they will need in order to be successful.
Who Should Attend?
HSTW school, district and state coordinators; principals; teacher leaders; and any others interested in learning how to analyze the HSTW Assessment should attend. This workshop is for HSTW sites.
