THE LORD’S SUPPER

1 Corinthians 11:23-34

For I have received of the Lord that which also I delivered unto you, That the Lord Jesus the same night in which he was betrayed took bread:

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.

For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.

Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.

But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup.

For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.

For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.

Wherefore, my brethren, when ye come together to eat, tarry one for another.

And if any man hunger, let him eat at home; that ye come not together unto condemnation. And the rest will I set in order when I come.

Chant: Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost as it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen! Amen!

FROM THE PASTOR’S DESK

December 7, 2008

The Friendship Baptist Church family has experienced a great loss in the homegoing of our dear friend, Deacon Jimmie Whitehead. Deacon Whitehead loved his wife, his family, his church family, his pastor, and he loved his Lord. At Deacon Whitehead’s transition, two passages of Scripture readily come to mind.

First, the victorious affirmation of the Apostle Paul found in II Corinthians 5:1: “For we know that if our earthly house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.” Beyond any shadow of doubt, the born again believer knows that when we are freed from the constraints of this “earth suit”, God shall give us a body as it pleases Him, a body that shall remain through-out eternity.

Secondly, John, the beloved disciple, writes to us under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit; “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from henceforth. Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labors, and their works do follow them” (Rev. 14:13). Those who die in the Lord are blessed (Happy, fortunate, prosperous, and enviable). Ultimate healing, no hurting, neither psychologically or physiologically; everyday (for there is no night) spent in the presence of the Lord.

Moreover, the lives lived by the believer leaves a lasting impact on this people planet. We continue to honor Deacon Whitehead and celebrate his life and legacy.
