Happy Homecoming

By Ashley Sayre and Aaron Evans

Friends University homecoming took place during the week of September 29th- October 5th. The whole week was eventful starting out with the carnival on Monday evening outside of Davis. This started the week off with a bang!

Following the homecoming carnival, the Falcon Activities and Campus Events organization was able to bring in Mike Super, Illusionist and former America's Got Talent contestant. The school was very excited, and it was a wonderful treat to have him. It was only fitting that his performance was then followed by a showing of the movie "Now You See Me" in lower Casado. A free movie with popcorn is always a pleasant homecoming activity! The next night we had a party jumping from wall to wall at "Get Air" indoor trampoline park! Right before the end to a great homecoming week for our Falcons, our Jazz Ensemble I gave a delightful performance. This was followed by our annual homecoming dance, which was moved to lower Casado after being originally scheduled to be at Rose Window Plaza. The Homecoming dance was definitely a blast. Can somebody say Circus?

Congratulations to our Men's and Women's soccer teams, the men winning 5-0 against Sterling College, and the women falling 1-2 in a tough overtime battle. Congratulations also to our Women's Volleyball team for also defeating Bethany College 3-1. Go Falcons!

On Saturday, October 4th we had our Homecoming Parade. Student organizations, clubs and departments, athletic teams and friends of Friends came out and enjoyed a nice walk around the block with music, candy, and goodies. Following the parade was a tailgate, complete with live music, moon bounce inflatables, and some tasty food!

Once the tailgate ended, game time began. The National Anthem was a glorious opener with our Singing Quaker Alumni gracing the crowd with their vocal gifts. At halftime, the Friends University Homecoming King and Queen were crowned. Congratulations to Jacob Thayer and Anna Hetherington. The Falcon Men's Football team came out victorious with a 53-14 win over Kansas Wesleyan. Roll Falcons Roll!

Closing a weekend of great tradition, we were very thankful to welcome many of our Friends University Alumni for the Singing Quakers 90th Reunion concert on Saturday night. A night of handshakes, hugs, and even some tears. The beautiful voices of our Quakers, new and not-so new, came together for a beautiful performance, conducted by none other than the legendary Dr. Cecil Riney. It was a grand close to the homecoming weekend indeed!

Homecoming week was one full of food, fun, honors, and memories being made. We hope everybody had a great week! Great work from ALL of our Falcons! Without our Friends U family, homecoming doesn’t happen and for that, we are grateful!
