Disc Golf (Frisbee Golf) Study Guide.

THE GAME

The game consists of throwing a disc from a teeing area to a target by a throw or successive throws.

The competitor who plays the round or rounds in the fewest throws is the winner.

Teeing order on the first teeing area is determined randomly. The player with the fewest strokes on the previous hole is first to tee off at the next hole. After all the players in the group have teed off, the player farthest from the hole (the away player) throws first.

All throws besides the tee-shot must be made with the foot closest to the hole on the spot where the last throw came to rest (lie). The other foot may be no closer to the hole than that foot on the lie.

A run-up and normal follow-through, after the release, are allowed more than 10 meters (30 feet) from the hole. Inside 10 meters, a player may not step past his/her lie.

THROWING

Backhand Throw: Throwing from the opposite side of the body as the throwing arm. Bring the arm backwards across your body, so the disc is next to the rear leg and the body’s weight is shifted back. As the arm is brought forward, shift the body’s weight forward and step the front foot ahead slightly. The point in the motion at which the disc is released will determine where it goes. On release, snap the wrist forward, so that the disc “jumps” off the side of the first finger. This will give spin to the disc and stabilize it in flight. Follow through to help direct the disc towards it target.

Forehand Throw: Grip the Frisbee with fingers under the Frisbee and your thumb on top. The throw is made with the front of your hand moving forward and from the same side of your body as your throwing arm. Snap the wrist forward and follow through by pointing towards your target.

Hammer Throw: A throw made from over the top of your shoulder of your throwing arm. Step with opposite foot like a regular throwing motion.
