Information Technology Manager

Overview: The Information Technology Manager is responsible for planning and overseeing the successful delivery of all of IslandWood’s technology needs in a mixed environment, including technical support of 100+ staff and graduate students, and over 10,000 visitors who may use technology on our campus each year.

Reports To: Director of Finance and Operations

Responsibilities:

Strategic and Team Management

·  Assists directors in setting IT technology vision for the organization, including hardware, software, infrastructure, communications systems, IT staffing needs and staff training.

·  Analyzes the needs of departments and establishes priorities for maintaining and expanding technologies needed to meet their goals.

·  Responsible for long term (3-5 year) technology strategic plan; provides leadership for the cross-department Technology Strategy Team.

·  Establishes and administers overall information technology policies and goals.

·  Leads technology team by overseeing all technology projects, assigning and allocating work, setting priorities and deadlines, and evaluating staff performance.

·  Manages IT department budget and hardware/software inventories; serves as liaison with external technology consultants.

Hardware and Software Support

·  Responsible for server, workstation, and storage system hardware configuration and management.

·  Supports and troubleshoots escalated user (Windows, Linux, and Mac in VMWare), workstation, application (MSOffice), and printer issues.

  • Oversees maintenance and procurement of AV equipment and portable systems, and trains staff.
  • Sources phone systems from Demac to desktop (PBX, wiring, and desk phones).

·  Oversees and maintains Web application (Plone).

·  Applies upgrades and supports special applications (EventPro).

·  Supports external requirements (conferences) as required (webcasting, special events AV, equipment loans).

Systems Administration

·  Administers Microsoft and Linux servers, workstations and anti-virus software; specifically MS Exchange Server, Active Directory, phone (Asterisk), database (SQL 2005), web (Apache/Plone), and backup servers.

·  Manages VMWare and View hosts and clients.

·  Monitors overall security and integrity of IslandWood’s network systems, including firewall (Sonicwall), wireless, switching systems and VPNs.

·  Oversees monitoring software (MRTG, Zenoss).

·  Administers data backup and disaster recovery practices for IslandWood systems.

·  Collaborates with database specialist to ensure performance of all database systems.

·  Manages remote access for all users.

Network Administration

·  Administers network data communications equipment (servers, routers, switches, wireless APs, VPN, firewall).

·  Manages new and old network plant installations including fiber and copper wiring and wireless hardware.

·  Responsible for patches and upgrades of network hardware and software.

·  Monitors and manages current usage and future requirements.

·  Manages the ISP and Internet usage to maintain satisfactory service levels.

Telephone Administration

·  Manages telephone system including configuration and deployment of desk phones, soft phones, fax interfaces and PBX servers (currently FreePBX Asterisk VOIP systems).

·  Organizes landline phone lines for emergency and fire alarms.

Required Qualifications:

·  Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in a related area.

·  Minimum 5 years of experience managing IT staff; strong leadership/mentoring skills.

·  Minimum 5 years experience in project management within an IT environment, developing IT plans and budgets, and developing processes and procedures.

·  3 to 5 years of experience supporting and managing a Windows PC multi-server environment.

·  3 to 5 years of experience with MS Exchange.

·  3 to 5 years of experience supporting and working with desktop/server virtualization (Citrix, VMWare or Windows Terminal Services).

·  Working knowledge and experience with Active Directory and Group Policies, and SQL management.

·  Experience managing a VOIP phone system.

·  Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills; a proven ability to assume responsibility for supporting and managing multiple systems.

·  Experience in measuring and delivering customer satisfaction.

·  Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to interpret complex technical concepts for end-users.

·  Ability to maintain and implement IslandWood’s best practices, informational technology policies and standards within the public website and internal systems.

·  Strong analytical skills with excellent documentation and organizational skills. Ability to analyze and interpret technology trends that align with IslandWood’s technological vision.

·  Must pass child safety screening procedure.

·  Must be able to comply with and maintain a smoke-free and drug-free work environment.
