This qualification is expiring. The last date to meet the requirements is 31 December 2012.

Purpose

The National Diploma in ChristianMinistries (Level 6) is one of a set of qualifications in the Christian Theological and Ministries Education sector that provide pathways for theological education, ministry training, and Christian development. This qualification may follow on from the National Diploma in ChristianMinistries (Level 5) [Ref:1026]. People who have achieved the National Certificate in Christian Studies (Level 5) [Ref:1031], or the National Certificate in Christian Studies (Level 6) [Ref:1032], or the National Diploma in ChristianMinistries (Level 5) [Ref:1026 ] may cross credit unit standards into this qualification.

This qualification may also be accepted for credit towards NZQA approved primary degrees offered by NZQA approved providers in the Christian Theological and Ministries Education Sector.

This National Diploma provides recognition of a comprehensive understanding of Christian beliefs and practices as they are expressed in one or more Christian Faith Communities. People who have achieved this qualification are able to evaluate perspectives on these beliefs and make comparisons with other perspectives. They have a comprehensive knowledge of the bible and are able to apply a wide range of interpretative methods to biblical passages. They have shown themselves to be capable of self-directed learning using a variety of scholarly resources. They are also able to apply theological reasoning to a variety of personal and ministry situations.

People who achieve this qualification are able to work in Christian ministry with a considerable degree of autonomy and accountability for the functioning of an organisation or ministry. With professional supervision or peer support they are able to establish and maintain working relationships between people or groups within the organisation or ministry. They have knowledge of and practice within the boundaries of ethical and legislative standards.

This National Diploma allows for the integration of some unit standard credits from other subfields and domains where this is appropriate for the development of related skills. It is anticipated that the provider will guide the selection of such unit standards.

Special Notes

People may be granted recognition of prior learning (RPL) on application to the provider. Candidates for RPL must go through an assessment process carried out by registered assessors in accordance with NZQA guidelines.
