Elementary Principal Sykora reported that report cards were sent home with the students. The elementary students will go outside for recess unless the wind chill is -5 degrees or colder, so please send warm clothes for your child to wear. The Power House door system has been having some problems, but the issues are being resolved. Sykora informed the board that courtesy cards for the Power House are only offered for community members to walk in the gym from 11:30 to 1:00 pm during the week. The school will be charging a deposit for those cards.
Business Manager Mohr informed the board the loan paperwork is in progress for the loan through USDA/West River Foundation for the athletic complex. Once everything is sent in, the school probably won’t know anything for at least a couple months. Mohr will attend the winter Impact Aid conference in Las Vegas the second week of December.
Superintendent Garnos reviewed the 96% attendance with the board. He informed the board that sanitizer dispensers were purchased and placed outside of each classroom to help fight all the sickness. Two flu shot clinics were held at the school; one for the community and one for the staff. The National Honor Society had their ceremony and blood drive and have been busy volunteering for the back pack program. There was a great turnout at the Veteran’s Day Program.
Superintendent Garnos asked the board to approve the various sports/activity rules they were given.
4986. Trask moved to approve the 2014-2015 Girls Basketball rules. Seconded by Johnson. Motion carried.
4987. Bielmaier moved to approve the 2014-2015 MS Boys Basketball rules. Seconded by Kjerstad. Motion carried.
4988. Cordes moved to approve the 2014-2015 Boys Basketball rules. Seconded by Johnson. Motion carried.
Garnos gave an update on the athletic complex project, noting that the goal is still to finish phase 1 by December 5th even though the weather has caused some delay. The drain system is currently being installed.
Delegate Assembly will be held in Pierre on November 21st. Garnos reviewed the topics for discussion with the board so guidance could be given to Member Anderson on what items to support and what items to oppose. There was a lengthy discussion regarding Common Core. The board decided to not support Common Core until they could get some of their questions answered. A community informational meeting will be set up.
The Superintendent Evaluation process will start next month.
The December meeting date will be changed to December 12th at 2:00 pm due to conflicts.
4989. At 7:50 p.m., Johnson moved to go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing contracts and student issues, according to SDCL 1-25-2. Seconded by Cordes. Motion carried.
With no further business brought to the board, Chairperson Eisenbraun declared the meeting adjourned at 8:25 p.m.
