Confucianism: Where? China When? 550BCE Hinduism: Where? India When? 1500BCE
Thesis similarity: Women are subservient in both societies.
Thesis difference: Due to cultural reasons, Hindu women are respected more than
Confucian women.

Reason why they are similar: During Paleolithic Era women had higher social status due to
the importance of their gathering role. But this declined during the Neolithic era as
specialization of labor occurred and women became relegated to domestic tasks à significant
loss in social status

Confucianism
(another) Reason why they are different: explain that due the Five Relationships women
are in a very subservient role to their husbands (and even to their grown sons); in Hinduism
the gender subordination is not as harsh.
