ABC-CLIO’s databases are proprietary databases. That means the company is responsible for researching and writing its own content. The good news for you RBHS researchers is that creating a citation for ABC-CLIO’s American History and World Geography databases is a piece o’ cake!!

Citation (using NoodleTools)

1.  Create a citation for a Database.

2.  Scroll to bottom of page and click on Original Content/Other.

3.  Name of the Database: American History

4.  Database Accession Number: Leave blank for RBHS research.

5.  Database Publisher/Vendor: ABC-CLIO

6.  Most Recent Date of Access: Today’s date is automatically filled in by NoodleTools.

7.  Date of e-publication: You will find the copyright date in the citation at the bottom of the article.

8.  URL: Leave blank in Citation for RBHS research

9.  Contributors: Look for author’s name in the citation at the bottom of the article.

10.  Article Title: Copy and paste to this box

12.  Click Submit

NOTE CARDS

1.  After you have created a citation for your article, click on “New” in the Notecards column.

2.  Title: NOT the title of the article. This is what the notecard is about. You will need a different “title” for each notecard. Ex: You can’t have three notecards titled “Background.” Instead, each should be specific.

3.  Source: This is filled in automatically when you create a citation.

4.  URL: Copy and paste the URL for the article.

5.  Tag: If teacher requires tags, create them for each card as you are writing it. Tags are used to label everything that your card could possibly cover in your paper. Later, you can sort your notes by tags to decide if you need more or less information for each part of your paper.

6.  Pile: If teacher requires notecard piles, each pile should roughly follow the main categories of your outline. Piles allow you to group your cards after your cards are written.

7.  Complete either the Direct or Paraphrase section.

8.  Check your spelling with the Spell Check function on each card.

9.  Click Save.

10.  If your teacher requires you to work with tags and piles, AFTER you have at least several cards, click on Notecards in the NoodleTools bar at the top of the page. Click on Move 10 to spread your cards across the table. Click dropdown menu for Search. Click Tag. Type in one of your tags. The notecards with that tag will be highlighted. Drag one colored card to the top of another. Type in a Pile title. (ex: background). Drag remaining highlighted cards to that pile. Now your cards for each section of your paper are together, and you know how many you have.

11.  If you want to create more note cards for the same article, then on the Works Cited page, click on New in the Notecards column and repeat steps 1 – 8
