JOB SUMMARY
The Home Health Equipment Technician Senior position includes both full performance home care service technical skills and also delegation of work assignments, organizational/coordination skills, and oversight/ instructional responsibilities related to the daily activities of the Home Care HME program.
This position requires an extensive understanding and working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and cryogenic systems, and an aptitude for bench-type repairs of home care medical equipment. Infrequent patient/client interactions such as patient education and equipment set-up which require good interpersonal communication skills. The Home Health Equipment Technician Senior works under the limited supervision of the Home Care HME Clinical Manager.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
1.  Project/ Team coordination, training, and leadership:
A.  Schedules/dispatches all deliveries and gives assignments to Home Health Equipment Technicians.
B.  Creates documents and schedules equipment pick-ups and exchanges.
C.  Collects and analyzes daily delivery/mileage data.
D.  Assists patients that come into the office to pick up their equipment and supplies.
E.  Provides back up and fill in for equipment deliveries, as needed.
F.  Periodic route reviews with each of the Home Health Equipment Technicians.
G.  Answers phone calls to assist patients that are having equipment problems/issues.
H.  Takes calls for oxygen cylinder replacements and create work orders.
I.  Schedules oxygen concentrator maintenance visits with patients and documents upon completion.
J.  Oversees and performs dirty equipment cleaning along with performing maintenance/repairs, as needed.
K.  Responsible for vehicle maintenance and safety checks, routine maintenance, and periodic inspections.
L.  Participates in recruiting, interviewing, and orienting new Home Health Equipment Technicians, as needed.
M.  Assists management staff with agenda items for the monthly Home Health Equipment Technician meeting.
N.  Assists management staff to coordinate Home Health Equipment Technician staff uniform distribution, repairs, and replacement.
2.  Coordination of delivery and maintenance of equipment and supplies to patients using portable oxygen, concentrators, and related equipment.
A.  Sets up oxygen systems in patients’ homes.
1.  Prepares appropriate equipment and supplies for home set up.
2.  Delivers home medical equipment and determines location for set up within patients’ homes.
3.  Provides equipment/supply operating instructions and reviews with the home user.
B.  Ongoing follow-up of all patients on home oxygen.
1.  Re-supplies oxygen in the patients/clients’ homes either through exchange of liquid reservoir units or cylinders.
2.  Performs equipment safety checks, including concentrators and other home medical equipment.
C.  Serves as liaison between patients and nurses/therapists regarding patient concerns or problems. Assures patient compliance with oxygen therapy.
D.  Develops, implements, and/or revises routing schedule consistent with all patients’ oxygen usage requirements in the
home.
E.  Documents receipt/delivery of weights, equipment identification numbers, and pertinent patient information.
F.  Performs routine maintenance and emergency repairs of all types of home medical equipment.
G.  Participates in “on call” rotation for the coverage of needed set-up and issues that need attention after normal business hours.
3.  Loading and transport of equipment.
A.  Loads delivery vehicle with equipment and supplies.
B.  Completes daily route sheet, documenting the time and mileage of each stop.
C.  Assures proper display on truck indicating high-pressure cylinders are being transported. Aware of and in compliance with DOT driving.
D.  Assures vehicle safety equipment is in working order. Responsible for maintenance record of vehicle.
E.  Maintains shipping papers manifest.
F.  Completes daily pre-trip checklist prior to starting deliveries.
G.  Maintains an Oxygen Cylinder Tracking Log according to FDA regulation. Documents batch and lot number of oxygen.
H.  Schedules routine maintenance of the UW Home Care Services delivery vehicle.
4.  Delivery and maintenance of equipment and supplies for Home Care Services Programs.
A.  Responsible for the safe and proper teaching and set-up of durable medical equipment, including beds, walkers, wheelchairs, commodes, canes, billirubin lights, etc. for patients in the hospital, clinic, and home setting.
B.  Responsible for the documentation, tracking, and billing of medical equipment distributed to home care patients in hospital, clinic, and home settings.
C.  Responsible for the safe and proper repair of common durable medical equipment including, semi-electric beds, wheelchairs, reclining wheelchairs, patient lifts, regulators, oxygen carts, etc.

Minimum

/ Three (3) years of experience in all of the following areas:
1.  Working with durable medical equipment, including ordering equipment, taking inventory, and performing minor repairs.
2.  Experience and/or training related to dispensing and handling of medical grade oxygen.
3.  Working in a patient-care position providing training to patients on medical equipment usage, direct patient care, emergency medical treatment, or other related direct patient contact.

/ Ability to be insured by UWHC risk management insurer which requires (1) a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License or the ability to provide a description of the incumbent’s driving record, and (2) successfully passing a driving background check.
