BU Internship Fund
Application Information 2017
Eligibility Criteria:
All students, both full-time and part-time, enrolled in the Questrom MBA program are eligible to apply for funding through the Internship Fund, should their summer internship be unpaid or under-paid. In order to be considered, the applicant must be in good academic standing with the university and must already have an internship offer pending. The review committee will confirm with the applicant’s internship program that the internship has indeed been secured.
Funding Amount:
The Internship Fund will fund individuals up to $7,000 for their summer internship. If applicants will be receiving partial payment from their internship program/employer, the Fund will only supplement the total amount earned up to $7,000. For example, if you are being paid $3,000 for the summer, you may apply for up to $4,000 from the Internship Fund.
Remember, the Internship Fund aims to maximize the impact of our MBA community and funding is limited – help your classmates by only asking for what you need!
Application Process:
There will be two rounds of applications for the 2017 Internship Fund selection. The application will be available starting February 27, 2016 and will be reviewed during the following three rounds. An applicant who is not selected in one round will have the option to be reconsidered for the following round. The applicant may edit and re-submit their application or keep it as is.
1st Round: This is the round when most applicants will apply. Applicants should have already received an offer or should be in the final stages of finalizing an offer.
● Applications are due March 17th at 10:00pm.
● Interviews will be held March 21st through April 4th.
● Applicants will be notified by April 10th.
2nd Round: Applicants should have received an offer and be preparing for their internship.
● Applications are due April 7nd at 10:00pm.
● Interviews will be held April 12th through April 26th.
● Applicants will be notified by May 1st.
After the 2nd round, applicants will be reviewed on a case by case basis, dependent upon available funding.
Interview Process and Selection Criteria:
Upon receiving a student’s application, the Internship Review Committee, comprised of previous Internship Fund recipients and the second-year Internship Fund committee members, will contact the student to arrange an interview. Applicants will be asked to note their interview time availability on the application.
After the interview process, the Internship Review Committee will meet to review the applicants and make a final decision. The review committee will look for the following criteria in each applicant:
● An internship with a positive social impact, and with a well-developed scope and goal.
● A self-motivated, positive student pursuing an opportunity that will accelerate his/her career.
● An application that clearly explains how the opportunity will be career accelerating.
● A student eager to learn from his/her work environment and colleagues.
● A student who will uphold Boston University’s strong reputation.
● A brief explanation of financial need.
Obligations of Internship Fund Recipients:
Internship Fund recipients are required to report back about their internship experience and participate in future Internship Fund events. Recipients will be asked to submit a report detailing their internship specifics and complete a questionnaire regarding the Internship Fund. Recipients must also participate in at least one fundraising event the following year, serve as a member of the application review committee for the following year’s selection, and aid in promoting the Fund. More details will be given to each applicant before they receive any funding. Prior to accepting funding, all applicants must agree to the above terms.
