CHAPTER ONE

1.0 INTRODUCTION

Really, could any areas exist without some commercial activities in one form or the other to other to obtain some essential commodities? Even the most scheduled part of the cities, the government, residential areas and other high income and low income residential do have some commercial activities so as to obtain some services whatever the magnitude.

Human being are general involve in different activities visa-planning,working,dancing,running and so on while this done, it is necessary they have a change of wages and salaries for variety if goods and services. Shopping complex that make possible leisure, which is a relative price.

Retail store provide services which makes living pleasantly efficient as its has been since the strong age. Buying and selling are therefore as old as mankind, periodic when man exchange the dear he had slain for necklace of shell, the modern house wife required a package of frozen food in exchange for money even the bachelor too.

As town and cities develop and growth, the population employment and structure changes, the buying and selling of structure, which is dependant on earlier manufactured. Factor changes too. The need for shopping complex came within the range of social services, which are essentials for the living of the people.

1.1 PROBLEM DEFINATION

No matter how the government or NGO’S tries at improving the professionals involved do not play their major role effectively with the adequate provision made for the project. Our shopping complex and market space will be noting to write about.

Now fewer facilities are on ground for such empowerment.E.g.Provisionof proper design for intending project. Hence a functional shopping complex is needed for this community to engage our women and men.

1.2 AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

AIMS

The aim for proposing the shopping centre stem from the fact that there have been no standard and modern shopping centers in this area.More so,there has been increase in the population and number of residents which the existing retail shops have not been able to serve adequately.

1.3 OBJECTIVE

  • To create a pleasant environment for shopping.
  • Provide a well balance shopping complex for the resident of Ede north.
  • Create avenue for convenient shopping activities through provision of safe pedestrians, circulation and efficient vehicular movement.
  • Giving people something they will be proud of and will like to identify themselves with.
  • Serve present and future need of the nearby resident.

1.4 JUSTIFICATION FOR THE STUDY

This research work will emphasis on and add to the existing body of knowledge, if the architecture can help to sustain life by designing an enabling environment that can facilitate, stimulate shopping process.

1.5 RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This research is based on extensive literature review of existing related works and direct interview with the professional in the field.

Finding on selected case studies and wed resources will be talking into consideration these will make provision for background knowledge and aid both primary and secondary date gathering that is needed for this research.

CHAPTER TWO

2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW

A shopping centre must have style. The absence of this will compound a boring repetition of standard formula.Thereby with the introduction style come the evolutions of new dimension .Therefore, in order to make the task of shopping a pleasure to the shopper, the basic element of any centre may change because of the nature of competition, population density and income level. The number of people needed to support a shopping centre of any type, for example cannot be fixed because income level disposable dilation by competition and changing method of merchandizing and changing store size all enter into calculation.

Obviously,no rigid standard for size will be realistic. It is realistic to state the local condition within trade area (number of household, income level, existing retail outlet) are more important than any standard population figure in estimating purchasing centre

2.1 SITE PLANNING AND ENVIROMENT

There is a need for each local government to help in the realization of this project. The model-shopping complex is meant to be in each local government.

Each local government is meant to locate a site adequate and related to the purpose of this shopping complex. The Central Business District area would have been the most ideal place but this kind of project cannot have adequate space in the CDB.

Therefore, new place should be proposed for this complex because the shopping complex itself is a C.D.B. on its own and with time the environs will be affected if adequately planned.

In achieving a site that will serve this purpose adequately there is need to study the site very well and following characteristics should be examined as determinants for site choosing .They are:-

  • Soil consideration
  • Topography
  • Location on Area covered
  • Accessibility
  • Environmental ImpactON SUBURB

2.2 FACTOR NECESSITATED THE SHOPPING FACILITIES

2.2.1 CITY GROUND:-The rapid growth in the urban centre and increase in residential sub-urban necessitates that every district having her own main shopping centre and several minor ones.

2.2.2 ROAD NETWORK:-The improvement on high speed circumference high ways created a competitive situation into the sub urban centers, hence reducing the retail business and causing the buildings in the business district. This situation, forced in the self-defense, a revitalization of down town. As a result of these shopping industry is today pointed in two directions.

  • The suburban centre are transforming into mega centre.
  • The CDB are making relentless effort in counteracting the ever growing suburban competition by creating more infrastructures.

3.1 ADENIRAN OGUNSNYA SHOPPING COMPLEX

3.1.1: picture showing floor pan of existing shopping complex

Source: field survey

3.1.2: picture showing the parking area of the complex

Source: field survey

Adeniran Ogunsanya has one major entrance to the whole complex and the others minor gate leads to car park. The car park can not serve the whole complex. The departmental store (UTC) can only be linked through the small gate from the main shopping complex and the car park. The car park is adjacent to the department store and the bank use mainly the car park for their operation.

3.1.3 TYPES OF SHOPS

There are mainly two types of shops at the Adeniran Ogunsanya Shopping complex.

  • The normal type
  • The mezzanine type

CHAPTER FOUR

4.0 RECOMMENDATION AND SUGGESTIONS

In a developing community, there is need for such an environment to facilitate and help in the orientation of the people towards social interaction.

This project aims at giving the community a place not merely for buying and selling merchandise on fixed price but also a spot of pleasure, recreation, hobby and exchange of ideas with others.

This project is recommended for other state as well to help in the development of their environment and creating an awareness that a market is not the only option for buying and selling, others small community can as well develop if giving adequate attention and planning.

If effort thought of and intentionally planned, shopping complexes is a place that ideas can be generated and develop.

In carrying out this task, there is need for the study of the growth pattern of the community so as to meet the present and future need of the people.

Local materials are advised to be used, to reduce the cost of the project but good construction company should be called to handle the project or direct labour method could be employed and supervised by the ministry of works and housing of such local government.

4.1 CONCLUSION

In conclusions,it is glaring that osun state need a place or something they will be proud and will like to identify themselves with. A place of interest and that can be said to be a part of the development of the state.

This research is to create a medium of material, physical and emotional expression of people towards each other.

Looking around the state, I want to conclude that the state lack this and it is time for the execution of this project and I put myself to take up the task of making available the proposal for present and future development of the state.
