Aims(s) - To practice reading

To develop comprehension of stories

To understand how the writer has affected/influenced the reader.

Learning objectives

Cognitive: Students are read stories daily and are aware that this process is to develop their reading. Also that the actual story is educating them, not just with the reading process..

Affective: Students will enjoy reading the story together with the teacher and discussing how they felt and what they thought the book was about.

Behavioural: Students will develop their vocab by reading the words within the story and then with activity. When doing the activity the children have to think about how they felt when reading the book and why .

Assessment and Evaluation:

·  Listening to the children while reading the story

·  Listening to the discussion afterwards and continuing with open questions to emphasise on the main points of the story.

·  Reviewing their understanding of the rhyming words

·  Prediction – showing the front cover and asking what the students think the story will be about.
·  Discussion about Pamela Allen and the other books read
Procedural steps
·  Reading the story with the children, using the prediction step every couple of pages through the story.
·  After the story is finished discuss the story.
·  Discuss the way the story is written; rhyming, sing /song and talk about other stories by Pamela Allen which are like this.
·  Children are given the words of the story and they are to write next to it the words which rhyme with them. Assists with writing skills, spelling, meaning and understanding of rhyming words.
Wrapping up and review
Discussion together about the rhyming words and if time is given some impromptu sentences with rhymes within them.
