Position Description

The Programs Manager-Older Adults (PM) is accountable for the design,implementation, budget, management and measurement of Oral Health America's (OHA) Wisdom Tooth Project® (WTP).The PM is responsible for overseeing the five (5) WTP strategies: ToothWisdom.org, the web portal; publication of the 10th Anniversary edition of State of Decay; a national symposium to develop a model for Regional Symposia; and the evaluation of possible demonstration projects that connect communities with resources to provide access to care. The PMwill work with the Programs Manager –Children to match partner needs with Product Donations from the dental industry.

The PMwill foster public-private partnerships with representatives from coalitions, non-profits, educational institutions and government; and will identify promising programs throughout the country that are advancing oral health. S/he will collaborate with the Communications team to activate the ToothWisdom.org marketing plan and provide content for OHA’s ongoing communications initiatives, grants and business reviews.

The PM willsupervise a Programs and Communications Coordinator and an Intern(s) who will be responsible for populating ToothWisdom.org and providing support for the other WTP program components.

Responsibilities

Program Development and Management

  • Participate in the establishment of WTP program/project criteria and recommend projects, strategies and/or tactics based on those criteria.
  • Develop program/project budgets in spreadsheet format in concert with the President and the Director of Finance.
  • Establish metrics for programs to ensure that they are mission and cost- effective.
  • Prepare for and participate in evaluation of the WTP, sharing information with the Board, staff and project partners, as appropriate.
  • Develop and advance strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations that can work collaboratively with OHA on the WTP.
  • Oversee the launch and continued population of ToothWisdom.org, including at least 2-3 additional state pages in 2013.
  • Collaborate with the President and the Communications team on the publication of the 10th anniversary edition of State of Decay.
  • Manage the implementation of OHA’s Older Adult Symposium in October 2013, in concert with the President.
  • Evaluate opportunities to utilize OHA’s disparities research for WTP and ToothWisdom.org.

Relationship Management

  • Manage relationships with program partners and support the Director of Development and Associate Director of Marketing in satisfying commitments to funders.
  • Foster relationships with the oral health and philanthropic community through participation in relevant events.
  • Lead the planning and implementation of stakeholder conference calls and meetings to develop State participation in ToothWisdom.org and the older adult Symposium.

Communications and Development

  • Work with Communications team to raise awareness, educate and expand interest in WTP via press releases, media outreach, a monthly Wisdom Tooth Insider e-news and social media strategies.
  • Promote communication among program partners throughcontent contributions to e-newsletters and ToothWisdom.org.
  • Participate in pre-proposal strategy meetings with OHA Staff and partners.
  • Participate in the development of LOIs and proposals to existing and new potential foundations and corporations, including the DTA Foundation for additional demonstration projects, e.g. Oral Medicine clinics.
  • Provide WTP program results to the Development Director to ensure timely and accurate reports to funders.
  • Contribute to annual corporate business reviews tomeet sponsor expectations.

Administrative

  • Prepare presentations/program updates and participate in Board Meetings.
  • Train and supervise Program Coordinator/Fellow and Intern(s), including selection, academic reporting (as needed) and personnel reviews.
  • Participate monthly in OHA’sCEO Update meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned or needed.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in health policy, public health, health communications, or social work; Master’s degree a plus.
  • Five to seven years’ experience with community-based health programs on a regional or national basis; experience with older adults preferred.
  • Outstanding project management and organizational skills, with proven ability to manage a multi-faceted program.
  • Strong written and verbal skills with attention to detail; writing sample required.
  • Interest and competence with standard office technology; previous experience on a website development team with an outside developer strongly preferred.
  • Track record in working with a broad range of stakeholders, including grass roots coalitions/organizations, corporations, boards/committees and volunteers.
  • Experience in developing program plans and executing program evaluations.
  • Ability and desire to work in an environment demanding cultural sensitivity to the needs of underserved communities; direct service experience a plus.
  • Preference for working with a small team oriented organization with a national footprint.
  • Ability to travel domestically 20%, including weekends for conferences.
