Reports to

The post will have a dual reporting line to the Chair of the Retail Development Group and the Head of Operations at Jersey Business.

Based at

The post holder will be based at Jersey Business, 31 The Parade, St Helier but will be expected to work flexibly from other locations and from home if required.

Job Purpose

This is a senior appointment as the Executive Officer will be voice of retailing in Jersey and be responsible for championing the retail sector to all stakeholders including the States of Jersey, retailers and consumers. The draft JRA Business Plan sets out the case, scope and deliverables (copy available) for the development of an Association.

Key Responsibilities of this Role

  1. Executive Support
  2. To setup, manage and run the Jersey Retail Association, its sub Committees, and formal meetings
  3. To report monthly of performance against target
  4. To review the longer term funding of the JRA and to grow income from new membership subscriptions, sponsorship and other opportunities
  5. To prepare the JRA’s annual plan and budget
  1. Membership Support
  2. To improve overall profitability and sustainability of individual retailers for the benefit of the economy
  1. Strategy Development
  2. To engage proactively with Stakeholders & Government to shape decisions and create a sustainable & enabling environment for retailing.
  3. To review, update, and deliver the existing Jersey Retail Association draft Business Plan and budget
  4. To support the development of a Retail Development Strategy for Jersey in conjunction withthe Department for Economic Development, Tourism, Sport & Culture.
  1. Marketing, PR and Events
  2. To design and deliverevents aimed at increasing footfall to the retail districts in Jersey
  3. The management of the Shop in Jersey social media sites and collateral

Dimensions & Scope

  • Grant funding from the States of Jersey is being made available toJersey Business to support this appointment and establish the JRA.
  • The successful candidate will be appointedfor a 12 month period.
  • The post holder will be expected to manage their working hours but will be required to treat this as a full time arrangement and commit a minimum of 35 hours per week. The post holder may be required to attend events and seminars outside of the normal 9am to 5pm - Monday to Friday hours.

Skills & Experience

  • The ideal candidate will have an impressive track record in retail sales, staff motivation, and have experience of broad engagement with retailing stakeholders
  • Have a professional managerial background and have an excellent understanding of the political and stakeholder implications of such an appointment
  • Have extensive sales and marketing experience including promotional activity in the digital space, socialmedia sites and content management
  • Strong administrative and secretarial skills
  • Have established links to UK retailers and networks
  • Having previously set up or advised in the establishment of a new organisation such asa retail store or industry body
  • Strong financial literacy in the preparation and understanding of forecasts, annual budgets, accounts and reporting
  • Media experience
