Location: The Factory Youth Zone, (Manchester Youth Zone)

931 Rochdale Road, Manchester M9 8AE

Salary: Roles vary from £9.88 per hour and £8.25 per hour

Hours: Various hours available, Monday – Sunday across all sessions: Junior, Senior club and Factory Sundays

Holidays: 14% of hours worked

Job Purpose:

To deliver a range of exciting activity programmes to young people that will challenge, stimulate and provide new opportunities, in line with The Factory’s themes around; sports, arts, personal development, crime prevention and health and wellbeing, outward bound and environmental activities, leadership, volunteering and citizenship, employment and enterprise.

Context of the post:

We are a Youth Zone based in the heart of Harpurhey, attracting young people from across the borough with our fantastic facilities. The Factory provides positive activities and practical support, especially for those who are disadvantaged. The aim is to enable young people to make constructive use of their leisure time and to raise their aspirations. All of our sessions are inclusive to maintain a mainstream provision. The centre is open seven days a week, at weekends, on bank holidays and during school holidays. The Youth Zone also develops and delivers other projects to improve the lives of disadvantaged and vulnerable young people in the area.

The Youth Zone is a ‘world class’ two-story building which has a dedicated climbing wall, gym / fitness suite, boxing studio, dance and performing arts studio and music spaces. Also included are a café which is open to the community during the day, games and social areas and an outdoor 3G pitch.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1.  To work directly with children and young people (8-12 years and or 13-19 years) with disabilities or additional needs (up to 25) and to deliver safe and structured activity sessions alongside mainstream provision within the Youth Zone.

2.  To confidently manage and establish positive relationships with groups of children and young people.

3.  Effectively communicate at all levels, verbally and in writing.

4.  To provide work alongside other team members and provide guidance and support to young leaders and volunteers.

5.  To attend training and development events where required.

6.  To be able to work from own initiative including being flexible to meet the needs of

children and young people.

7.  To work alongside the team to deliver a wide range of activities.

8.  To promote cultural cohesion and inclusion, and proactively challenge any prejudice and discrimination.

9.  To ensure the participation of young people in activities and that their ideas contribute fully in the delivery and evaluation of activities.

10. To understand and adhere to The Factory’s policies and procedures at all times with particular emphasis on equal opportunities, health and safety and safeguarding.

11. To promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young people at all times.

12. To monitor, record and evaluate sessions in accordance with The Factory’s systems.

13. To be an active member of the team and operate in line with the Charity’s values and principles.

14. To promote a positive image of The Factory’s through your work with children and young people

Additional information
