Student Conduct On School Buses

The school bus is considered to be an extension of the classroom. Therefore, the Board of Education shall require students to conduct themselves while on the bus in a manner consistent with established standards for classroom behavior and the following set of bus rider rules. Rules for Safe Buses:

1. Be on time at the designated bus stop. The bus will not wait for you.

  1. Stay off the road at all times while waiting; conduct yourself in a safe manner.
  1. Do not move toward the bus until the bus comes to a complete stop. Line up to enter the bus in an orderly fashion.

Etiquette for Riding:

  1. Students are to remain seated when the bus is moving.
  1. Keep head, hands, and arms inside the bus.
  1. Scuffling, fighting, loud and/or obscene language is forbidden.
  1. Damage to the bus shall be paid for by the offender.
  1. Students are responsible to clean up after themselves and keep the bus clean.
  1. Unacceptable behavior may result in loss of riding privileges.
  1. Absolutely nothing is to be thrown inside or from the bus.

After Leaving the Bus

  1. After receiving the signal from the driver, the student should check for traffic and then cross the road at least ten feet in front of the bus.
  1. Help look after the safety and comfort of younger students.
  1. Be alert for the danger signal from the driver.

Students who violate bus rider rules may be subject to disciplinary action. All cases of discipline on school buses shall be reported by the bus driver orally and followed upin writing to the K-12 Principal, who will provide a copy of the report to the Transportation Director. The K-12 Principal or in his/her absence the Director of Transportation are authorized to suspend the bus riding privileges of a student. Before a student is suspended from riding the bus, a conference shall be held with the student and the principal. Parents/guardians shall be notified prior to the implementation of any suspension from riding the bus. It is the principal’s responsibility to notify the parent/guardian of the bus misconduct incident and of any disciplinary action taken. Parents/guardians may contact the District Administrator if they are not satisfied with the action taken.
