As a certified trainer, you are expected to present yourself and your training session in a professional manner. Dressing appropriately, being prepared on time and adhering to established schedules are marks of a professional trainer.
Voluntary Trainer Certification
Persons desiring to present child care training to meet the annual training regulations of the Department of Social Services for regulated child care in South Carolina, may elect to become Certified Child Care Trainers. To apply for certification the trainer must provide documentation in the following areas:
- Education-at least a four year college degree
- Professional experience in early childhood
- Course work in teaching adults
- Two letters of recommendation as a trainer
After a trainer has received certification, he will submit training outline applications that are scored by an objective system.
The attendance roster will designate whether or not a trainer is certified.
A trainer does not need to be certified to present child care training for DSS credit. Training may be registered with the Center for Child Care Career Development without going through the approval process.
When an early care and education staff member attends certified training, they will know that the trainer has the education and experience to present child care training and that the training content is current best practices and research in the field.
