2006 Local Bikeway Program

WHEREAS, the Township Committee of the Township of Bernards authorizes submission of project applications for a bikeway on Martinsville Road, Valley Road to Mountain View Boulevard ($533,135), and;

WHEREAS, the grant requests (minimum of $200,000, maximum of $500,000) will come from federal funds; and

NOW THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Township Committee of the Township of Bernards authorizes the Township Engineer to submit project proposals and project cost estimates for the above bikeway/sidewalk projects.

I, John M Bolcato CPA, Treasurer of the Township of Bernards, hereby certify that adequate funds will be made available for the above referenced purchase in an amount approved by the Township Committee in the 2006 Capital Improvement Fund budget. Monies will be available in the Capital Improvement Fund pending Township Committee approval of the 2006 budget.

Proposal for Sidewalk/Bikeway on Martinsville Road

(Valley Road to Mountain View Blvd)

Bernards Township is proposing a sidewalk/bikeway as Phase I to interconnect Pleasant Valley Park & Mountain Road Athletic Facility. Phase I is approximately 6,100 linear feet and traverse through a commercial area. The Township anticipates the total cost for Phase I to be $533,135 of which the Township is willing to match up to 10% of the grant. The scope of work includes:

1. DEP Permits where required
2. Extensive Maintenance & Protection of Traffic
3. Excavation & Fill as required
4. Retaining Wall to minimize wetlands encroachment
5. 4’ wide concrete sidewalk – 6,100 L.F.
6. Relocation of guide rails
7. Crosswalks and Walk/Don’t Walk signals at existing traffic controls
8. Minor landscaping & topsoiling
