Electronic Valve Testing (EVT)

Electronic Valve Testing of safety and relief valves (Online), removes the need to remove valves from

service to be inspected or tested, usually in a workshop. EVT tests safety and relief valves whilst still

in service, thus saving time and money.

/ This procedure can be adapted to most types of safety and relief valves, including spring type and torsion bar type valves.
The EVT principle is simple, by supplying an assisted force to the current line pressure and, by utilising specific calculations, to determine the actual lifting pressure of the valve.
A hydraulic jack is mounted to the valve spindle through a load cell. A hydraulic pump is used to slowly creep up the assisted force, allowing consistent flow of data. The load sends data to a NATA calibrated logger which converts data and sends to a lap top computer. The computer runs a purpose designed data base that plots the incoming data, accurately measuring the set pressure of the valve to an accuracy of <1%.
OMT’s EVT system is fully NATA calibrated, ensuring a quality of service that operates to AS1271.

Ø  Some major benefits of the EVT system;

·  Being able to complete what would normally be a very expensive and time consuming

process, to, completing valve testing without even reducing your plants production.

·  Being able to identify valves that may require attention prior to an outage commencement.

·  The use of controlled hydraulics allows for the safety valve to be soft floated, an

option that only the EVT system can offer.

Ø  Documentation Supplied;

·  Completed calculation sheet which includes valve specifics, eg. valve details, mean seat area,

all relevant pressures and test details.

·  All plotted data formatted into graph.

·  All QA documentation supplied by OMT meets with the requirements of ISO9001.
