To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to apply for the Research Internship Program for the summer of 2011. I am currently a Cadet at Norwich University, the Military College of Vermont, majoring in Political Science with a minor in Chinese with a 3.51 GPA; in addition, I also serve as a third class Navy Midshipman (non-contracted) in the Naval ROTC program at Norwich.

I am interested in interning as an Analyst because I have a great deal of experience with East Asian studies. I speak an intermediate level of Japanese, with seven years of studying the language. I have had the privilege to attend a study tour of the cities of Sagamihara and Kanazawa, Japan while attending high school. Further, I have supplemented my language studies with a intermediate level of Mandarin Chinese on the collegiate level, totaling four semesters. I have also had the privilege to study Mandarin at Minzu University during the summer of 2010 through the Department of Defense’s Project Go in Beijing, China. Through Norwich University, I have the privilege to attend The Republic of China’s Military Academy in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in addition to hosting Officer Candidates and Midshipmen from the Australian Defence Force Academy this upcoming semester. In addition to regional exposure and applicable academic criteria, I completed a summer internship with the World Affairs Forum of Stamford, Connecticut. My duties included but were not limited to fulfilling daily duties such as arranging press releases, contacting guest speakers and members, and assisting at formal functions that were held during the summer of 2009. I believe that my experience with the culture of East Asia and linguistic ability in Japanese and Chinese will be of significant value to the STRATFOR and the United States Intelligence Community in the capacity of the aforementioned internship.

As a Cadet at Norwich University, I am accustomed to a very fast paced lifestyle that requires a delicate balance of rigorous academics, challenging Cadet duties, proper physical conditioning, and Cadet leadership positions. These skills that help form the highly accountable military professional make me well qualified to succeed at the analyst position. During my freshman year I balanced everything that encompassed being a freshman recruit at any Senior Military College: NROTC duties, Politiea (Political Science Club), Pegasus Players (Theater Troupe), physical training, and Drill Team obligations, all the while maintaining Dean’s List academic standing.

I believe my experience with East Asian cultures and languages, experiences as a Cadet and Midshipman, and genuine interest in a career in the Intelligence Community significantly qualify me for the intern position of Intelligence Analyst. I will be available as of May 23rd, 2011, and I look forward to discussing how my skills can be of value to STRATFOR as the world moves into 21st century warfare and intelligence gathering. Thank you in advance for your time and consideration, I am easily reached through my email at .

Very Respectfully,

CDT/MIDN 3/C
