Dear Coach,

On behalf of the Salina South High School Forensics Team, we would like to invite you to the annual Cougar Classic Forensics Tournament on January 26th and 27th, 2018.

On Friday the 26th the tournament will feature Student Congress debate, PFD and LD if numbers merit. We will use the January PFD Topic and the Jan/Feb LD topic. The Student Congress portion of the tournament will have a Senate, House and Novice Chamber. We will expand chambers should numbers merit. Student Congress will feature debate on Wave 1 of the West Kansas NSDA Congressional Debate Docket. You may have unlimited entries in all Friday Events. We will award medals to the top 6 in each chamber, and sweepstake awards to the top 3 schools based on the top two entries from each chamber. The entry fee for Friday Night events will be $5.00 per competitor.

On Saturday the 27thwe will offer competition in the following events: International Extemporaneous Speaking, US Extemporaneous Speaking, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Prose Interpretation, Poetry Interpretation, Duet Acting, Duo Interpretation, and Impromptu. A school may enter up to 20 entries, and students will be allowed to compete in as three events as long as they can manage in the allotted times for rounds. This means if students want to triple enter the tournament they may, but we will not hold round times for them to compete. The only exception is for draw events. Students may only enter one extemp division. We will allow electronic retrieval in extemp prep. Medals will be awarded to all finalist and we will award sweepstakes plaques to the top 3 schools based on their top 16 entries.

Extras will be granted, if available, based on the following criteria: 1. Schools who allow us to bring extras. 2. Schools whose tournaments we attend. 3. Schools who host tournaments. 4. Any others in the order that the request was received. Entry fees are $5.00 per competitor in each event. (Duo and Duet will be $10.00.)

Entries: Entries should be in by the 22nd of January. Any cancellations after the 22nd will result in a loss of entry fees. A student may enter only one draw event with the exception of Impromptu. Students may triple enter events at this tournament.

Awards: All individuals in finals will be awarded medals. Sweepstakes trophies will be awarded to the top three schools and based on the school’s top 16 entries.

Tab Room: The tab room will be open.

KSHSAA: We will follow all rules and regulations as printed in the KSHSAA Manuel, unless otherwise specified.

Electronic Retrieval: We will allow the use of laptops for electronic retrieval in extemp prep.

Timeliness: Please be aware that all competitors should perform in a timely fashion. We will not hold the rounds for tardy competitors that arrive late through no fault of the tournament.
