The Money Game

There are 24 spaces on the game board. They are arranged in an “S” that begins with “START” and ends with the “Happy Ending” house. Participants roll a dice to decide how many spaces they move. The object of the game is to reach the “happy ending”. 2-3 participants can play at a time.

At the beginning of the game, each player gets 1,005,000 Song Dep Dong. (10) 100,000 Song Dep Dong notes + (5) 1,000 Song Dep Dong notes. If someone is sent back to START they are given money to make sure they start again with at least 1,005,000 Song Dep Dong.

6 of the spaces on the board have a “Money Game” symbol and a number on them. Each time someone lands on the “Money Game” space, she must read the card with a number corresponding to the number on the space and follow the directions.

3 of the spaces on the board have a Song Dep Dong symbol on them. Players that land on this space get an extra 500,000 Song Dep Dong.

Money Game Spaces:

  1. A client has no condom with him and refuses to buy a condom. Spend 1,000 Song Dep Dong for a condom or choose a Consequences Card.
  2. A client offers you 100,000 Song Dep Dong for sex without a condom. Insist on a condom or get 100,000 Song Dep Dong and choose a Consequences Card.
  3. You forgot to buy a condom before the pharmacy closed and the client does not have a condom. You decide you need the money and decide to have sex without a condom. Pick a Consequences Card.
  4. You have no condom with you. Spend 1,000 Song Dep Dong for a condom or choose a Consequences Card.
  5. You make 200,000 Song Dep Dong more than you usually do. To celebrate, you get drunk and you forget to wear a condom with a client. Pick a Consequences Card.
  6. A “VIP” client refuses to wear a condom and will pay you 200,000 Song Dep Dong extra for sex without a condom. Say no to the client and his money and miss your next turn or choose to have sex with him without a condom and pick a Consequences Card.

There is a separate space on the board for the Consequences Cards.

Consequence Cards (each game should come with 4 sets of 6 cards):

1.  Because you didn’t wear a condom you got HIV. While there is no cure for HIV, there is treatment that does help. Treatment is free for you, but costs the government 12 million Dong per year for your medicine.

2.  You are lucky this time. You didn’t wear a condom, but this time you didn’t have bad consequences. You may not be lucky next time.

3.  You got Gonorrhea because you didn’t use a condom. Treatment costs 400,000 Song Dep Dong. Please pay. If you do not have enough money, return to the START.

4.  You did not use a condom and now you are pregnant. Raising a child until the age of 18 costs 100 million Song Dep Dong. Please pay 6 million Dong for the first year. If you do not have enough money, return to the START.

5.  You are lucky this time. You didn’t wear a condom, but this time you didn’t have bad consequences. You may not be lucky next time.

6.  You got Gonorrhea because you didn’t use a condom. Treatment costs 400,000 Song Dep Dong. Please pay. If you do not have enough money, return to the START.
