Position Summary: The WithinReach Fund Development Officer works with the Director of Community Engagement todevelop and implement strategies for acquisition, retention and cultivation of donors and prospects. This person is a team player with proven fundraising success, a good sense of humor and a commitment for fulfilling the vision of WithinReach to make the connections Washington families need to be healthy.
General Duties and Responsibilities: WithinReach’s Fund Development Officer leads the development of a strategy for, and coordinates the implementation of a comprehensive and integrated fundraising relationship management/stewardship plan by working with program staff and with the community engagement team.
Donor engagement
- Lead all donor acquisition, cultivation, renewal and upgrading activities with an emphasis on majordonors and prospects; manage solicitation and tracking of these donors, using in-person, phone, mail and email techniques where appropriate; draft compelling and effective solicitation, renewal, thank youand acknowledgement letters for donors and prospects.
- Work with the Director of Community Engagement and other staff to conduct outreach to major donors and prospects.
- Maintain electronic Major Donor/Special Gifts prospect list and Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge files.
Event management
- Create plan, oversee budget and coordinate logistics for the production of annual luncheon event and other donor events. Supervise other Community Engagement staff in event support roles.
- Travel to events to meet with donors and prospects. Staff WithinReach booth and support senior leaders in their fund development efforts.
- Coordinate meetings for major donors or corporate/foundation funders and the Executive Director, Director of Community Engagement and other key staff members.
- Respond to sponsor, donor and prospect inquiries; interact with donors, prospects and sponsors for all cultivation and fundraising events.
Grant and development support
•Oversee grantwriting, sponsorships and record all grants interactions in Raiser’s Edge database (tracking LOI, application, reporting and other deadlines). Coordinate efforts of program and administrative staff to write and submit grant proposals. Work with program staff to schedule and submit grant reports for awarded grants.
•Along with the Director of Community Engagement, provide staff support for the Board’s Development Committee. Prepare meeting agendas, reports and other materials as needed.
•Schedule quarterly leadership calls/brown bags for Executive Director and major donors.
•Maintain annual grant calendar and provide regular fund raising reports. As requested, produce additional articles, updates and reports.
•Write and update program specific templates and stories for use in grant applications and donor communication.
•Design and conduct a series of donor engagement seminars and/or webinars throughout the year.
•Perform routine administrative duties and other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
•Minimum of five years of fund development experience, ideally with individual, major gift focus.
•Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
•Highly skilled in Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge or a comparable database.
•Knowledge and experience with “moves management” approach.
•Experience working with Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel; PowerPoint); high level of comfort working with online applications including Constant Contact.
•Membership in or commitment to AFP or other professional organization is preferred.
