2:00 pm – 5:30 pm General Session: Innovation: It’s More Attainable Than You Think
King Charles An interactive workshop highlighting the latest research on innovation with practical take-aways you can immediately apply to your work
Speaker: Cleve Justis
Who Should Attend: All Attendees
What does “innovation” really mean? We hear the word everywhere. Organizations talk about it and encourage us to "be more innovative" and "work smarter, not harder." Yet few of us know what it and how do we bring it to life in our workplaces.
Together with participants, we will unpack the concept and bring innovation principles and practices into participants’ daily work. The session will include short presentations, experiential activities, case studies, and open, active collaboration and dialogue. Through these, participants will learn how they and their partners can benefit from innovation-oriented practices and how small steps can make a big difference in outcomes right away. The session will be interactive, thought provoking, practical, and fun.
Cleveland Justis is a leading researcher on the topic of innovation and entrepreneurship. Every year he helps thousands of people become more creative and entrepreneurial. He’ll challenge and inspire you with engaging exercises, a deep-dive into the latest research, and provocative conversation.
Learner Outcomes:
1. Participants will learn about the counterintuitive history of innovation.
2. Participants will engage in two hands-on exercises that will help them be more innovative in their work with members.
3. Participants will discuss innovation and how they can use the principles in the workshop to make their work-life more effective and profitable.

10:00 am – 11:30 am Helping the Hospitality Community Help (and Get Help) in a Crisis
Del Prado Speaker: Tyra Hillard
Who should attend? Everyone
In an industry where perception drives demand, hospitality businesses need to be proactive in addressing safety and security on a property scale as well as a regional scale. Traditionally, openly discussing safety and security in a hospitality setting has been taboo. But times are changing and research on travel anxiety demands that hospitality businesses be prepared.Crises and disasters, by definition, threaten and sometimes overwhelm an organization or destination. The World Tourism Organization says hospitality and tourism partners need to be more directly involved in crisis response and recovery—from hosting emergency responders during a crisis to helping with recovery marketing efforts to draw visitors back to the area post-crisis. Help your hospitality members understand what they can be doing before, during, and after a crisis to help themselves and their community.
Learning Objectives:
·Explain how safety and security tools like the OSAC Hotel Safety & Security Assessment can be a positive tool for hotel members.
·Recommend resources at the local, state, and federal level that can provide assistance in a worst-case scenario.
·Make hospitality members aware of laws that may affect their operations during a crisis, such as Florida’s anti-price-gouging laws.
