DENVER BRONCOS QUOTES (11/16/17)
OUTSIDE LINEBACKER VON MILLER
On struggling in the first quarter of games
“We’ve just been through a tough patch. We have another team that’s been going through the same tough times as we’ve been going through, so it should be a good game this weekend. Looking forward to it and we’ve been positive here at [UCHealth Training Center] for the last three, four weeks. We’ve been practicing well so hopefully it will turn for us this weekend.”
On how important is it to get off to a good start on Sunday
“I think that’s all you really need. We just need one win, then we have to go and get the next one and then the next win. But, the first step is just getting the win.”
On the pulse of the locker room
“We’re good. We just need to win. We all feel it, we’re all pros and we’re all in the boat together. Hopefully it will change for us. We have a good team coming in and we haven’t put together a complete game yet. Hopefully this will be the week for us.”
On why he feels the losing streak has happened
“I don’t know. If I did, we’d be undefeated right now. It’s the National Football League, it’s a tough league and we have to just go out there and get one.”
On Falcons DE Adrian Clayborn getting six sacks in one game and the possibility of an NFL player getting 30 sacks
“You just needs need three or four more of those games.”
On if he still feels getting 30 sacks in a season is possible
“Yes, it’s possible. You just have to get a couple of those games in a row and it could happen to you. When you step out there on the football field, it doesn’t really matter about records or the best O-line or D-line, none of that stuff. You have an opportunity to go out there and play and that’s all you really need in the NFL.”
On whether there’s a fine line between play making and being selfish
“Luckily for me that is my job. I just go out there and try to make it happen. I just go out there, try to make plays and be selfish for my teammates and my guys, go out there and do my job. We’re in the middle of the season and this is real football now, so hopefully the type of team that we are will start to show.”
On why the Patriots had so much success running the ball
“It’s just the Patriots. They just had a great gameplan and a great scheme going into this [past] Sunday.”
On how he’s tried to help DE DeMarcus Walker
“Just by leading by example. It’s a tough area because you don’t want to be too hard on guys and you don’t want to be too soft on guys either. I just try to blend some of the coaching that I’ve had throughout my time here in the National Football League with DeMarcus. It’s kind of a mixture between all of the coaches that I’ve had. You want to motivate, but you don’t want to be negative at the same time. We’re all brothers and we all want to see each other do well. At the same time, you have to motivate, but you have to watch how you do it.”
On being nominated as the Broncos’ Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award Nominee
“It’s great. I don’t go out every day thinking, ‘How do I win the Art Rooney Award?’ I didn’t even know anything about that. Just to live my life, stay on the path I’m on and do the things that I do naturally and then you get that. It’s a dope feeling.”
On how it feels to be recognized for his sportsmanship
“Like I said, I didn’t know anything about the award for it. I was just doing that from the heart. I was just doing that because I felt like that’s what the game needed. To get recognized for it is an amazing feeling. I wasn’t going out looking for any type of recognition so to get it was dope.”
On having NT Domata Peko as a teammate
“It’s been great. He’s probably the most positive teammate that I’ve ever been around. No matter what, he’s always, ‘How’s it going boss? Good morning. We’re going to get this one today.’ You look at him and you’re like, ‘Man are you 24 or 23 years old?’ He’s one of the oldest guys in the locker room and still has that energy about him on the practice field and off the practice field. Hot, cold or raining, loss or win, he’s the same guy. He’s great. He’s definitely been a shining star in the locker room for us.”
On struggling to rack up sacks
“I just have to get it going and make some plays for my guys. Like I said before, it’s not the type of season that I wanted to have, but I still have a lot of time. I still have a lot of ways to help my teammates. I have another great opportunity to go out there and create some pass rush for my guys.”
