- My decision for Erasmus in Germany
One day a friend of mine talked about this Erasmus program, and asked me why I do not apply for this scholarship. At the first time I hesitated, because I have never stayed abroad for a long time, and I have never been in Germany before and of course my English language skills is not perfect.
Everybody encouraged me and they said it is a good chance for me and I should try it. After that i decided to apply. I think it is a good opportunity to study abroad, discover a new country, get familiar with a different culture, develop my English language skills and collect new friends from several different places of the world.
Later we went to the International office in our school to get some answeres about our questions and get more information how we do it where we can do it and so on.Ákos Tóth, our contact person suggested Germany because it is most appropriate for us.
I could not belive that our application were succeeded. I was very happy when i got the news and I look forward to the start. During the waiting we met one of the boy who was already been in Finnland with this programm. He told us only good things and we were amazed. I felt myself very lucky because i hope I will get the same experiences.
That is the reason why I chose to go on ERASMUS exchange to Germany and I like Germany . I would like to learn about the German culture, people, and their habits.I think that the life there can be really good.
- Preparation for the journey
How I prepared myself? At first I asked a few students who have already been in Germany, I asked them about things which were important to me.The International Office in my home also helped me (booking apartment, show the railway guide etc. )
I started to refresh my English knowledge with my English teacher, she was very helpful and the extra lessons were useful for me. Also I watched English movies with Hungarian subtitle.
- Arrival & study in the host country
I did not go alone, I traveled with my friend ( above-mentioned) her name is Anikó Klagyivik. The journey was very tiring but the sight compensated us, Germany is amazing, mountains and landscapes are breathtaking. I fell in love with Germany for the first sight.
Fortunatey our apartment is perfect for us. We live in a big house on the third floor, we have an own kitchen, bathroom and a common bedroom. Russian exchange students live on the other floors. We get on well with each other. They are a nice bunch of people.
At the first school day we had to search Henriette Stanley who was waiting for us. She was very willing. She gave us a lots of instructions.
The school, the classrooms and the school canteen are super. We can find everything wich is useful for us.We can use the computers and the library with our card which we got from the school, and we can also use it at the canteen.
On the first lesson I was disappointed because I did not understand most of the lesson. But I decided that I will not to give up and I will learn as much as I can.
- Lectures & personal evolution
Wepicked up the following subjects: Business English, DaF German, Business Simulation, Business Culture, Tutorials Current Issues, Cross cultural Education and Business Communication Skills.
My favourite lesson was the Business Simulation with Stephanie Ashford and Tom Smith. We learned how can we write a CV, wich is the best way what we use when we would like to apply for the job. If we would like to start an own enterprice how we can start it. We were given lots of important and useful instructions.
The other lessonI loved was the Tutorials Current Issues with Henriette Stanley. We were on a company visit at the Ebm Papst company, that was the second time that I saw the company from the inside. I had to write a presentation from this subject about the German Plagiarism, but I neve heard about it before in Hungary. It was interesting for me.
I have never learned business English before, but now I think I have improved a lot compared to the first day. All of the lessons were amusing and useful. I can feel my personal evolution. And I would like to learn more and more. After arriving home I will try to take the Intermadiate English exam.
- Free time
If we have free time we go to the Neckarbard to swim and have a rest in the jacuzzy. Or go to Villingen, because it is a nice place. Three weeks ago we were in Stuttgart to visit the Frühlung Festival, we ate Germany sausage and drank beer. It was a good weekend. And for the last time we visited Vogtsbauernhöfe in the Black Forest, I was speechless after i saw the beautiful German landscape.
Pancake Party with the Russian girls
- Conclusion
This semester was one of the best experiences in my life, if I could go again I would definitely use this opportunity again. I had a lot of new friends and I learnt a lot from another culture that I can use in every segment of my life. I can strongly recommend Germany and Duale Hochschule for every student who is planning to go to Erasmus.
Thank you very much this chance!
