QUARTERLY MEETING OF 17 APRIL 2010

The meeting was held at the American Legion Post #6 at 200 Pickens Street in Columbia, S.C.

Commandant Wilbur opened the meeting promptly at 1000hrs.Colors were posted.

One verse of the Marine Corps Hymn was played and Chaplain Chuck Paxton led us in the opening prayer.

INTRODUCTION OF SPECIAL GUESTS

Danny spoke on 2010 National Convention opening ceremonies, Battle Colors,

Silent Drill Team performing but not sure of date yet. For add in book $100.00

Also spoke on the sale of the Hawaiian raffle tickets.

Truett Wood, Iwo Jima, Siapan, and Tinian veteran spoke on his experiences in WWII and his recent trip back to the Islands.

All Detachments were present except for 1112 and 1219

MEMBERS IN DISTRESS

The passing of George Hefner, George Romzette, and Dr. Morris Ehrlich. Sick: Bill Johnston, Pat Berry, Ernie Busby, Lynwood Thompson, Gene Woods’s wife, and Chuck Taliano out of remission.

MINUTES

Minutes have been posted on the website. A motion was made to accept the minutes as posted. Motion was passed.

PAYMASTER REPORT

Charles Hardy reported our total liabilities and equity as of 16 April 2010 was $17,722.22

A motion was made to accept the report be accepted as written. Motion was passed, subject to audit. Budget to be voted on at State Convention.

OLD BUSINESS

John Hopkins reported on Tri-care and to look into new Health Care Plans

NEW BUSINESS

* Charles Hardy had 2006 streamers from Greenville Convention. Final payment was made and that is why they were late.

* Charles Hardy made motion and seconded to pay for uniform.

* MCL state staff to visit more detachment meetings to answer questions on league rules, by-laws, etc;

* Commandant stated department awards to be submitted by May 17th. One form for each person. Form is on website. Also Marine of the Year.

* Lane Parker asked why we need district vice-commandants for South Carolina. Vote on at State Convention.

* Dick S. of det 939 James L. Hammonds announced Aiken Memorial Day parade Saturday 28th of May. Contact him if interested.

* Rally at Columbia State House on Veterans Affairs date_____?

* Marksman Coordinator stated that Young Marines cannot shoot in competition because of insurance rules.

* Cathy Stump will report on projects at State Convention.

* Butch Raynes Det 873 having ceremonies at Grand Strand, Myrtle Beach May 21 & 22.

* Log on to State Website to register for 3rd Marine Division Convention in Charleston June_____?

OFFICER REPORTS

* SR VICE - Get with Archie Sweet if you have any questions about the delegates for your detachment in voting at State Convention or National Convention. Must have paper membership card to vote at National. One delegate per 10 members at State and one delegate per 15 members at National. Register around 3pm on Sunday at National.

Detachment websites need to be updated monthly,(especially officers). Article 8 section 800, article 2 section 290(c) to be voted on at State Convention.

* JR VICE- Membership tracking list. Each detachment try to get 10% of new members. Each new member needs to read guide book and by-laws.

May 1st at 11:00 am Ceremony at Florence Veterans Park for dedication of MCL monument.

* JUDGE ADVOCATE- Henry McMasters office ruled on paymaster multiple terms. Non-profit organizations are not effected by state regulations.(see attachment)

Changes in 7 by-laws. Motion was made by1169 and 2nd by 1105 that we accept .Motion carried. After discussion everyone was against by-laws and them being on wrong form. Det 1105 and 1169 withdrew their motion and to carry them to State Convention for voting. Go to website for changes.

* MASTER at ARMS- Learn the uniform regulations. Pamphlet given to each Detachment.

Female regulations to come. Blood stripe on blue trousers to be clarified later.

MCL guidebook available at ship store. Every officer should have one.

* STATE CONVENTION REPORT

John Tharp (803) reported 20 registered so far for convention. Ball game Friday night reserve spot. (50 spaces available). Go to website for forms.

* TOYS FOR TOTS

Jim Williams reported convention will be held at Lynchburg, Va. Go to website to sign up for convention and register for TOTS.

* YOUNG MARINE REPORT- none

Sr. Vice - Archie Sweet

Jr. Vice - Don Jones

Judge Advocate - Jim Smith nominated by Butch Raynes , 2nd by Chuck Tidwell. Jim said he would run. It is not clear at this time if Bill Hartley is running for this office.
