Soil Stories Worksheet
Directions:First,be sure you’ve completed the Soil Stories activity by following the instructions downloadable from the Online Workshop webpage. Next, Complete this Worksheet by answering the following questions about your experience exploring the Soil Stories activity and completing the modules. Please take your time to reflect and provide thoughtful answers which will help you incorporate PLT activities into your future education lessons and activities.Finally, Save and Submit. Save this file to your computer so you can submit it to complete the workshop.
- Briefly describe your soil samples. Where did you sample from? What type of soil do you think you found and how do you know?
- Did your original ideas about soil and what it is important change after doing the activity? How?
- Did you enjoy doing this activity? Do you think the youth you work with might enjoy doing this activity?
- Please describe how you can use this activity with youth in your programs or lessons. Is there a way to could adapt or extend this activity so your youth would enjoy it more or it would better fit your needs?
- Module 2 covered the importance of spending time and learning outdoors. Do the youth you work with like going outdoors? What are some things you can do to help make their time outside more enjoyable and educational?
- All of the Modules mentioned resources and offered links to additional tools you can use to supplement PLT PreK-8 activities. For example, Module 1 covered other reading and technology connections in the PreK-8 guide as well as other PLT curricula. Module 3 covered supplemental resources including the GreenSchools program, Earth and Sky Podcasts, What is a Healthy Forest? and Urban Forests Florida specific curricula guides, to name a few. Take some time to explore some of these resources. Please describe how you think at least one of them will help you lead PLT activities with your program or class.
