MEMBERS REAPPOINTED TO

THE NATIONAL GALLERIES OF SCOTLAND BOARD

The Cabinet Secretary for Culture, Tourism and External Affairs, Fiona Hyslop, today announced the reappointment of Tari Lang, Alistair Dodds and Edward Green as Members of the National Galleries of Scotland Board.

MEMBERS

Tari Lang was appointed to the Board in January 2014. She is an international advisor to corporations and governments/government bodies providing senior specialist counsel on reputation risk and management, and leadership development. Ms Lang was the Founding Partner of Reputation lnc, a reputation management consultancy in London, Dublin and Dubai and before that she was CEO of Edelman Public Relations Worldwide in London. Ms Lang currently sits on the Board of the Edinburgh International Festival Council and the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland.

Alistair Dodds joined the Board of the National Galleries of Scotland in January 2014. He has held senior management positions in HR and Corporate Governance with the Highland Council over a period of 12 years and was Chief Executive for over 6 years, until August 2013. Alistair has been directly involved in significant public sector reform and delivered the benefits from strong and effective partnership working with the public, private and third/voluntary sectors. As well as being a member of the Highlands and Islands Enterprise Board, he also sits on the Board of the Highland Print Studio in Inverness. He was awarded a CBE for services to local government in Scotland and an Honorary Fellowship by the University of the Highlands and Islands in recognition of his work on the integration of health and social care.

Edward Green was first appointed to the Board in January 2014. His strengths lie in retail and marketing. A specialist in jewellery and antiques, he has been an art lover and collector since his twenties. During his 30-year career, he has held the positions of Deputy Chairman of Garrard, the Crown Jewellers and Managing Director of Mappin & Webb, and was responsible for taking both companies into Asia. Following that, he was appointed Board Director of Asprey and President of Asprey in the United States. He was appointed a Deputy to the Lord Lieutenant of the City of Edinburgh in January 2016.

REAPPOINTMENTS

These reappointments will be for four years and will run from 1 January 2018 to 31 December 2021.

These reappointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Ethical Standards in Public Life in Scotland.

REMUNERATION

These reappointments are part-time, are non-remunerated and have a time commitment of at least six days per year.

OTHER MINISTERIAL APPOINTMENTS

Alistair Dodds is a Member of the Highlands and Islands Enterprise Board, for which he receives a remuneration of £419 per day, for a time commitment of two days per month.

Tari Lang and Edward Green do not hold any other public appointments.

POLITICAL ACTIVITY

All appointments and reappointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, in accordance with the original Nolan recommendations, there is a requirement for appointees’ political activity within the last five years (if there is any to be declared) to be made public.

BACKGROUND

The National Galleries of Scotland (NGS) is one of Scotland’s leading cultural institutions, comprising the Scottish National Gallery, the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art, all in Edinburgh. It also has partner galleries in the Borders at Paxton House and in the north-east at Duff House, and works with a wide range of organisations across Scotland, the UK and the rest of the world.

The organisation is governed by a Board of Trustees which is accountable to the public through Ministers and the Scottish Parliament for the discharging of the functions as defined in the National Heritage (Scotland) Act 1906 (as amended in 1985).
