Conquered by Alexander and was ruled by Ptolemies; Jews sent there to colonize

After Augustus’ reign, it was renowned as a city of education under early Caesars

Tarsus also was a place of much commerce, with access to both land and sea routes

BenjaminYoungest son of Jacob; son of Rachael

Tribe settled in Judah near Jerusalem, their inheritance in the Promised Land

Fierce warriors; Gave Israel her first King – Saul

After death of Solomon, Judah and Benjamin formed the core of the southern kingdom
